Message from Dr. Fay & Mrs. Henson
Crossroads Community,
Happy January! Happy New Year!
The WSD Board of Education updates to the Mitigation Measures allows for visitors to come back into the schools. We know you are also excited about being able to get back into the building. Below are a few reminders about our expectations:
Parents are allowed to walk their children to the classroom during arrival. If you choose to, please park in the larger parking lot and use the crosswalk to enter the front doors near the flagpole. You must enter through the front office, sign in, walk your child to the classroom, and then exit the building back through the front office to sign out. Please do not take this time to visit with your child’s teacher. The teachers are busy getting the students ready for their day.
We are allowing parents to come into school to eat lunch with their children. However, you are only able to eat with just your child during their twenty minute lunch time. You are not allowed to go to recess with them. We have a separate area for parents to eat with their children. It is located near the gym and cafeteria. You must sign-in at our office, then you wait in the foyer for your child to walk by from the Kindergarten through third grade classes. Once you see your child, they will walk with you to the eating area. If your child is in fourth through sixth grade, then you will wait near the parent eating area for them to walk by. Parents are not allowed to eat breakfast in school with their children.
I’d like to remind you of our dismissal expectations. Parents are not allowed to walk up to the school to pick up their child during dismissal. You can only get into the driveway line to wait for us to call your child out. We will walk your child to your car. Please do not get out of your car, it only slows things down. We prefer for everyone to enter the school parking lot from the gas station/shopping center entrance.
We love our parent-school partnerships and appreciate your love of Crossroads. We look forward to seeing you!
Have a Happy New Year!

Our Students of the Month - December
Lost & Found
Raptor Security System Information
Part of keeping students and staff safe is knowing who is in our building at all times, so we are rolling out a system to allow us to do just that. Starting January 24, 2022, WSD visitors will check in to our buildings using Raptor, a new visitor management system designed to assist with building security.
What does that mean for you?
When you arrive in a WSD building as a visitor, you will be asked to scan your ID, take a photo and complete the management system’s check-in process.
Raptor will screen the information against sex offender databases and locally customized lists of banned or potentially threatening individuals, instantly alert school officials to a threatening presence, and maintain a searchable log of all visitors.
Once approved, you will get a customized visitor badge to wear while in the building.
Thank you for your support as we roll this out and enhance school safety protocols!
Parents or guardians who are only picking up a child for the day will not need to use the visitor management system.
Science Fair
Arrival and Dismissal - Please Read Carefully
All of our car riders and our daycare van riders will go to the gym at the end of the day. Once in the gym, a staff member will call students’ names over the radio for them to come out to meet their vehicle. A staff member will escort students to each car.
PLEASE READ: We are no longer allowing parents to walk up to get their children. You will need to drive through the pick-up line.
We sent home lime green car tags with all students on their first day of school, 8/24. If you need additional tags, please check in the main office. ***PLEASE USE A THICK MARKER TO FILL THESE OUT***
When you drive through the car lanes, please have the lime green car tag on your dashboard where we can see the names of your students. If you do not have the car tag, we will have to check your ID, radio the office, and wait for them to clear you before we can call your child out. As you can imagine, this will slow down the process for everyone.
A few other things to keep in mind with this process: Please remember, we do not accept dismissal changes after 3:00 pm. Also, our primary focus is student safety and 3:20 is a critical time when children can potentially get lost in the shuffle; it is imperative that we streamline the secretaries’ time to focus only on emergencies that arise. With that in mind, please understand that we will not permit access to the office after 3:20 to check out a student. Please plan accordingly so we aren’t caught in the position to have to tell you no. Also, remember that you are responsible for calling in to change if your walker will become a car rider during the days with inclement weather. We will no longer be sending a text about rainy day dismissals.
If you have any questions or thoughts, please let us know.

PTA Update!
Happy New Year Corgis!
We hope that you had a wonderful holiday season! Thank you to everyone who supported the PTA events last year. It hasn’t been the typical school year, but we’ve had a lot of fun and it’s been very exciting to see everyone pull together to still do things as a community, and to support the school.
We had a fantastic turnout at our Panda Express Dining Night last month! In fact, we crashed their website because we had so many orders. Thank you to everyone who supported the event. We hope to see you at Nancy’s Pizza on January 12 from 5pm – 8pm for our next dining night.
Last month, we also treated our teachers to an afternoon of treats with the staff favorite cookie exchange. A wonderful time was had by all, and everyone left with a full box of goodies. Thank you to all of the families who donated cookies and treats and to the volunteers who helped with the event. A special thank you to Bethany Bohnenstiehl for coordinating everything.
Finally, we were very excited that last month we awarded our first round of teachers grants. One of our fundraising goals this year was to raise enough money in order to support the teachers with funds for additional classroom supplies. We were able to give each grade level $1000 to use in ways that directly benefited the students. The money will be spent on a variety of items from additional reading materials, to stem activities, to enrichment activities. We can’t wait to hear how the students enjoy the materials.
Corgis Care!
Did you know that St. Charles County has experienced a 69% increase in the number of people facing food insecurity in the last year? And 24% of those people are children. The numbers were scary before, and Covid-19 has increased them dramatically. Food banks see a flood of donations in November and December, but then things come to a screeching halt. That is why we are continuing our annual food drive in January.
We will be collecting non-perishable food to benefit Operation Backpack and Operation Food Search. Details are still being worked out and we will share more information once everything is finalized. But in the meantime, please start gathering non-perishable items to donate. We will take anything but we will be placing an emphasis on boxed items this year.
Stay tuned, we’ve got lots of fun events coming up!

You Shop, The School Gets Paid!
Did you know that when you shop on Amazon, it’s easy for Crossroads to get a small percentage from your purchase? All you have to do is shop through AmazonSmile instead of Amazon. Once you’ve set up your account, your shopping experience will be identical. The difference is that when you shop on AmazonSmile, the AmazonSmile Foundation will donate 0.5% of the purchase price of eligible products to the charitable organization of your choice. Crossroads Elementary PTA would be grateful to be the charity you choose. Go to smile.amazon.com to get started. Once you’ve set this up, it’s easy to set up your Amazon app to link to AmazonSmile as well.
