Alief ISD News and Recognitions

Alief ISD students were named national medalists by Scholastic Art and Writing.

Killough Middle School student Trina Zhang received a National Gold Medal in Writing. Kerr High School student Kaylee Vu received a National Silver Medal in Art.

Alief ISD recently held a special graduation ceremony for Taylor High School senior Crystal “Iris” Marquez.

Iris is currently battling Ewing’s sarcoma but continues to attend school every day. Iris was spotlighted by multiple media outlets for her continued commitment to education in the face of adversity.

Science and Engineering Fair of Houston Results

Killough Middle School student Kathy Nguyen advanced to the 2019 Texas Science and Engineering Fair, which will be held from March 29 to 30 at Texas A&M University.


Killough Middle School 8th Grade Science STEM Teacher Lauren Mitchell was named the 2019 Science and Engineering Fair of Houston’s Junior Division Teacher of the Year.

Mahanay Elementary School and Youngblood Intermediate School raised more than $1,300 and $3,700 respectively through the schools' Pennies for Patients campaigns.

All of the proceeds will go towards the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Alexander Elementary School specialist Brandy Jones was selected to serve as the Ocean Exploration Trust Science Communication Fellow.

Jones will be joining the community of the Corps of Exploration aboard Exploration Vessel Nautilus. The Ocean Exploration Trust is a non-profit organization with an extended team of experts dedicated to ocean exploration. Dr. Robert Ballard, best known for his 1985 discovery of the RMS Titanic, founded this organization.
