Happy Holidays!

Happy Holidays to everyone! I hope each of you have a wonderful winter break. Enjoy this time, get some rest, ice skate, take a walk with a friend or family member, read a New York Times Best- Seller book, drink a cup of hot chocolate, write a letter, take a deep breath- you did it- the first semester is complete :-). Each of you have done a tremendous job leading your faculty and students. You have made an impact in your school and community. You are developing not only a legacy of learners, but a legacy of positive student relationships. Thank you for your relentless drive to ensure that our students are prepared for success next semester and for years to come! Cheers to you! You are a game changer!

Peace be with each of you this holiday season,

Christie

Rigor, Relevance, Relationships

he past two weeks I have shared the importance of rigor and relevance in instruction. The third "R" is essential in order for rigor or relevance to take place with students. This is relationships. When I think of great Ted Talks, I immediately think of Rita Pierson's Every Kid Needs a Champion. She discusses the importance of building positive relationships with students. She also quotes Dr. James Comer who said, "no significant learning can occur without a significant relationship. This is so true. As you begin thinking about what the rigor, relevance, and relationship triad looks like in your school, first examine the relationships that teachers are creating, building, and nurturing each day.
