SIG Overlake Update

Teaching Students, Not Curriculum!

Week 2

Dear Families,

It's amazing that we're already at the end of week 2. And what a fun and productive week it has been!

The students have all been hard at work and enjoying their courses. Here are some of the highlights of the academics days:

A real detective came to talk about her career with our students. Our young spies have been making use of clues and evidence to solve crimes. Our future scientists have been collecting rocks for their studies and creating action plans for protecting our oceans. We even have some athletes who have achieved record hula hoop times! Our budding mechanics have built simple machines and our web designers have developed ideas for their websites and online games. We even have stars in the making, preparing to entertain audiences with everything from puppet shows to short plays, while our talented painters and sculptors are designing their masterpieces.

We are so proud of the work our SIG students have completed in their second week! We are already looking forward to their final projects.

Photos were taken this week and we'll have printed copies to give everyone with their certificates at the Closing Ceremonies.

Thanks for a great week and we look forward to seeing you all again on Monday!

Things to Note

Closing Ceremonies

Please join us on the last day of class (Friday, July 19th) from 4:30 to 5:30pm in the Campus Center for our presentation of certificates and plaques as well as a chance to view student projects at the end.

The Campus Center is located directly across form the entrance to the SIG building. If you are walking from the parking lot toward the flag pole it is to the left.

Upcoming Birthdays

A very happy birthday to Varun and Vishnu who will be turning 9 on Wednesday, July 16.

Thank you all for being patient with drop-off and pick-up. We hope things have been alright. If there are any problems, please let us know, so we can try to address them right away.

Lost and Found

Here are some items that were in the Lost and Found Box at the end of this week.

Fire Drill

This past Tuesday, we had a fire drill. We evacuated the building calmly, with everyone accounted for, in 57 seconds. Thanks to the faculty, staff, and students for taking safety seriously.

Please bring in recyclables!

Our spies will be making their own original spy gadgets! Any left over materials or recyclables you have, such as toilet paper rolls/paper towel rolls, would be greatly appreciated. You can drop them off in the SIG office. Thank you!
