Faith Corner

One day a man with leprosy came to Jesus. The man knelt down before Jesus and said, "If you will, you can make me clean." Jesus looked at the man and he felt love and compassion for him. He reached out his hand and touched the man and said, "I am willing, be clean." Immediately, the leprosy left the man and he was cured.

When we think of things that are contagious, we usually think of bad things, like coughs and colds and scary diseases. But today's story tells us that there is something even more powerful and contagious than scary diseases -- God's healing love. Jesus was filled with God's healing love, he was not afraid of the man's disease. Because Jesus wasn't afraid, Jesus could reach out and share God's healing love with the man. That love was contagious, the man "caught" it and was made well because of it. This is the good news for today: The most powerful and contagious thing in the world is God's healing love. The more we follow Jesus and learn how to receive God's healing love, the more we'll be able to share this most powerful, contagious thing in the world.

Dear Father, you sent your Son to bring hope to the hopeless. When we find ourselves in a hopeless situation, we will put our hope and trust in him.

In Jesus' name we pray.

Amen.

Cold Weather

Mother Nature has decided we needed to feel winter this year so as the snow starts to fall and the temperatures drop, here's a friendly reminder to make sure your child has the appropriate clothing for outdoors. Students will be required to go outside for recess until the temperature reaches an outside temperature of -25C (this includes the wind chill). Students should have a warm coat and boots, as well as gloves/mitts, toques and snow pants.

EICS Parent Assurance Survey 2021-22

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As part of the Elk Island Catholic School Assurance process, we would like to invite you to participate in the linked survey. Results from this survey will be used to inform planning at the school and divisional level for the 2021/2022 school year. This survey complements and is provided to all grade 4-12 students, all staff, and all parents in our division.

If you have children in multiple schools, we ask that you complete one survey for each individual school. If you have a child who has attended St. Isidore Learning Centre full time for remote learning, identify your school as St. Isidore Learning Centre.

If you have a child in grade 4, 7, or 10, you may receive a survey from Alberta Education. If so, we would encourage you to complete both surveys.

The survey will remain open until Thursday, February 18, 2021.

If you have questions, please contact us at 780-467-8896, or toll free at 1-800-996-9982.

Thank you for taking the time to give your feedback.

Meet Our Parent Council Secretary - Laura Lee

Welcome to PAC Corner!

My name is Laura Lee. I am the Secretary for the Parent/Student Council this year. This is my first year on Council. I have three children attending Holy Redeemer in grades 1, 3 and 8. We moved to the area a short three and a half years ago and we absolutely love it!

I decided to participate in the PAC meetings to meet other parents and learn about what’s happening at the school. Parents and teachers attend the meetings and meetings usually last about 90 minutes. At every meeting, I am amazed at the great ideas parents bring to the table regarding things like fundraisers, activities for the students and how to provide hot lunch during Covid (spoiler alert: this year is a challenge). Do you have any ideas you would like to share with us? If you do or if you just want to attend as a spectator, please join us at our next virtual meeting on February 16 at 6:30 p.m.

Holy Redeemer Parent Advisory Council (PAC)

Please feel free to join our Holy Redeemer Parent/Student Council Facebook group. This is a private group for our school community only.

Student Shout Out - Spin It to Win It !

Holy Redeemer is happy to promote our NEW Student Shout - Spin to Win initiative.

How it works:

- Any staff member or student can nominate another student within the school to receive a Student Shout Out slip.

- A student can earn a Student Shout Out for helping out, volunteering, going out of their way to help another person within Holy Redeemer.

- The student will be acknowledged for making an outstanding positive choice within the school.

- Once a student receives a student shout out they will bring their slip to the Principal's office where the slips will be collected and the student congratulated!

- Six names will be drawn every month, 3 - K to 4 and 3 - 5 to 8, students selected will have an opportunity to Spin to Win a prize on the Student Shout out Wheel.

Dear parents, If you are interested in donating a gift certificate, new games, new balls, new toys, etc. to our Spin to Win initiative, please submit all prizes to the school office.
