VOGELTOWN SCHOOL
TE KURA O HUATOKI. WEEK 1 TERM 4 2019
SCHOOL GOAL: MINDFULNESS
WHY: To think carefully about our learning.
To think about our emotions - how these affect ourselves and others.
SIGNS OF SUCCESS: We can reflect on our learning and discuss what we have learned.
We can control our emotions and know what to do when we feel upset, excited, stressed or tired.
KIA ORA WHANAU, FROM MR O
This term is a very busy term with loads of learning, school activities, sports, whanau events and end of year activities. Please look at the calendar below and our online calendar for all activities and events.
We have begun this week with the seniors Big Day Out. This was funded by the students business ventures! They had an absolute blast at the pools, Bowlarama and then pizza for lunch! What an awesome way to end this unit of work.
A big thanks again to all the families who supported the kids business ventures. Also huge thanks to the senior team of teachers and Mr George who worked tirelessly to make this such a successful inquiry!
You will notice that the senior school grounds are nearly completed after the building of the new classroom. The senior school is locked up after 4:30pm and in the weekends/holidays so that it is a safe place for the community to use. With the sunshine hours extending, we will see the school grounds being used and more over this term - please respect and enjoy the grounds.
With the sunshine hours extending we are asking the kids to have their 'bucket sunhats' this term. If you do not have a bucket hat, you can get one from the office for $15 or bring your own.

Wednesday: Mrs Newland & Mrs Melody
Thursday: Mrs Boot & Mrs Melody
Friday: Mrs Newland & Mrs Boot
This daily team-teaching approach will provide a great opportunity for small group work. If you have any concerns, please don’t hesitate to come in and chat to Mrs Newland.
ENROLMENTS 2020
To assist the school with preparation for 2020, please inform the office of any students who may be starting or leaving that we may not already know about.
Please note, if you have a student who is transitioning to an intermediate or year 7 - 13 school in 2020 we advise you to check that the enrolment has been received and accepted by that school. This is especially important for schools that have an enrolment scheme in place. Thanks heaps!

MEASLES IN TARANAKI
Taranaki has had several cases of people with measles. We don’t have an outbreak at the moment but more cases are likely because of the large outbreak in Auckland.
Now is a very good time to make sure everyone in your whanau has protection against measles. Children should be vaccinated on time at 15 months and four years of age.
If you don’t think you are immune to measles you need to make an appointment with your GP clinic for an MMR vaccination.
Please be patient if you can’t be vaccinated straight away. It is not possible to vaccinate everyone at once.
The risk of catching measles in Taranaki is still low.
Taranaki DHB has a new measles FAQs page which aims to answer questions you might have about measles.
Click the link below to view the FAQs, which can also be reached via the Taranaki DHB website home page. http://www.tdhb.org.nz/services/public_health/measles.shtml
The school office is in the process of making sure we have immunisation certificates on file for all students, so that in the event of a measles outbreak, we know which students are not immunised, as they may be required to stay away from school until the outbreak is contained. You may be contacted by the school office and asked to bring in proof of your child's immunisation. Thank you for your cooperation.
