National Assistant Principal's Week - April 11-15

This week we recognize Ms. Ortiz, Ms. Whatley, Mr. Barnes, Mr. Brannon, Mr. Diggins, and Mr. Richard. The role of Assistant Principal is multi-faceted and while each has their own title ranging from Academic Principal, Dean, or Coordinator members of our leadership team assume all roles regardless of title. They are a SPECIAL and HARD-WORKING group and I am grateful for each one of them. Please take a moment this week to thank them for all that they do to contribute to our AWESOME School!

Spotlight On 8th Grade - "Oodles Of Tootles"

Thanks Ms. Netzel!

It's been a week now and no one but the brave few who know how a positive word can make a strong impact on others have put "Tootles" up on our board in the 8th grade hallway. Tootle is the opposite of tattle.

I know we are all busy and overwhelmed as we approach testing season, but this is actually the time we should make a point in uplifting one another to survive the upcoming stress.

With Mr. Barnes' encouragement, I have personally given tootles forms to some staff and a few for Ms. Alfaro to hand out.

Please make some time to think of someone you would like to write a tootle for to be a positive example for our students as we all enter the testing season!

See me in room B221 or Ms. Alfaro for a form. Be brave and show how we are a positive staff and influence on each other.

AVID Community Service Project - Carpenter Shelter - April 1-19

Four AVID Seniors (2 of whom are former Hammond students)are completing a service learning project in conjunction with FCH AVID in support of the Carpenter Shelter. Starting today through Tuesday, April 19, there will be a school-wide competition to support the Carpenter Shelter by collecting canned food, clothes, and monetary donations. The class that donates the most items will win a pizza party.

This project will allow students to learn about giving back back to the community. For those who don't know, the Carpenter's Shelter here in Alexandria supports the homeless to achieve sustainable independence through shelter, guidance, education and advocacy. If you need a box, please contact Mrs. Petty.
