February 10-13
A Note from the Teacher
- Your child is welcome to bring Valentine's for the class any day next week. We will have our treats and open Valentines on Thursday, February 13, 2020.
- Bullying T-shirt order form and money is due MONDAY, February 10, 2020.
- There is no school on Friday, February 14 so we will be taking our tests on Thursday.
- Instead of a spelling page this week I have sent home a math fact page that can be done and turned in any day before Thursday.
- I will be sending home a reading passage booklet. The stories in this booklet practice the skill for the week. Please leave it in your child's folder until the end of the week. You can practice one story a night. Or if your child can continue on and read more than one story with few to no errors feel free to do that. Of your child struggles than practice as much as needed. At the end of the week take out of your child's folder and keep them for future practice.
- If you haven't been able to get to the assignments on Canvas please let me know. Remember, Canvas assignments are not available on phones. However, you should be able to get to them using a tablet, Chromebook, laptop, desktop or Kindle. So, if you have one of these devices and it still isn't working please contact me.
- I can't stress enough how much information and practice for your child is available on Canvas. Your child can practice spelling, 100 & 200-word lists, phonics words, all reading from the Wonders series, reading practice at his/her level on Raz, math practice. It really is one-stop educational shopping. ANYTHING your child is struggling with there is practice for them on Canvas. PLEASE check it out!

Math Fact Practice Tips:
- Practice nightly with your child. Right now we use the counting up or counting down strategy. I will be introducing touch math this week. This was included in your orientation material. As the facts get higher we will be using doubles to help figure out tougher problems. EX. If you know 7 + 7 = 14 then you also know what 7 + 8 would be 1 more (15). I will also be teaching the 9's by making a 10 by taking one from the lower number. Ex. 9 + 7 becomes easier when you think of 10 + 6.
- Please do not encourage the use of fingers.
- Please have your child practice one time over the weekend.
- There is a great app. called Math Drills you could try with your child.
- I included the link to math-drills below to print off practice sheets. We allow 5 seconds for each problem.
