September 2023

A Note from the Principal's Desk

We have had a great start to the school year! It has been wonderful seeing our students return and welcoming our new students and kindergarteners to Highlands!

Our updated student handbook is on our website. Please be sure to read through this and review it with your student(s). A signature page was sent home with all students during the first week of school. Please sign and return it to your child's teacher if you have not already done so.

We hope you had a wonderful 3 day weekend. We are looking forward to our Brown Bag Lunch on Friday, our Fall Festival on the 14th, and Picture Day (Individuals) at the end of the month!

We will have our annual Parent Brown Bag lunch on Friday, September 8.

  • Here is our lunch schedule for the day

  • Parents can bring their own lunch to eat with their child

  • Students will eat outside and either bring a cold lunch or eat hot lunch provided by the cafeteria

  • If students are getting hot lunch, they will have the options of hamburgers or toasted cheese sandwiches, fries, and fruit
  • Parents will not be in the building, but will need to wait outside to meet their student (if getting hot lunch, you may be waiting a bit longer)
  • Parents will meet students at their line up location spot on the blacktop (there will be music stands with teacher names on them to identify location)
  • Students need to finish eating and clean up their mess before leaving to play at recess
  • Students will need to line up when they hear the bell to signal that lunch is over

Individual Picture Day

Picture Day will be on Tuesday, September 26th.

Picture packets will be sent home with students. Students may also pre-order pictures online at www.dorianstudio.com or https://mydorian.com/

School Updates

Student Personal Devices

Please be sure that your student leaves their personal device(s) at home. If you student brings a cellphone, smartwatch, etc. to school, they need to turn it off and leave it in their backpack. Students should not be using personal devices to communicate home throughout the day. While your child is at school, we are responsible for their safety and security. Please be sure to communicate through the main office.

MyApps

We receive many questions about apps that students can use at home and over breaks. If your student signs into their Boise Schools My Apps, there are many apps loaded in that they can use to support their learning. Students can access my apps through https://launchpad.classlink.com/boise

Walk N Roll

Hi Highlands Families!
With the weather getting cooler we thought this to be the perfect time to start Walk n Roll back up! Each Wednesday starting September 6, encourage your kiddo(s) to walk, bike, roller skate, skate board, etc (any non-motorized transportation) and have them head over to the table near the bike racks! We will have charms to add to their shoelaces/key chains. The class who has the most students walk/roll/etc for the week gets to keep a trophy in their classroom!

Fall Festival

Highlands Parents! We are excited to celebrate our Highlands community during our annual Fall Festival. We will have several food trucks with dinner and desserts for purchase, inflatable games, field activities, treats, a cake walk, temporary tattoos and a photo booth. Please join us!

When: Thursday, September 14th from 5:30pm to 7:30pm.

Where: The fields and blacktop behind Highlands Elementary School.

Cost: Not cost to attend. Food trucks will have items for purchase.

*Parents and guardians are expected to supervise their children.*

And now for the challenge, please bring in store-bought cakes for the Cake Walk. Teachers will collect them from September 11th-13th. The two classes that bring in the most cakes will each receive a popsicle party.
