CVA: Working to Develop THINKERS
CVA is currently working to incorporate 8 THINKING strategies throughout both our school and learning. They come to us via our new math program Engage NY however we think they can become an essential part of student's growth and success.
When you visit, look around the classroom to see if you can find them. Ask your child(ren) what they know about them and how/when they use them.
We at CVA believe there is a huge difference between enabling students and EMPOWERING students. Teaching students how to critically think helps them develop into innovative thinkers and creative problem solvers which we all know is essential to a successful life both inside and outside of the classroom. We are working to be intentional and strategic with our learning experiences so that they offer a certain level of struggle. We believe that productive struggle leads to deeper learning and the ability to retain that learning.
Help us make words like perseverance, patterns, structure, precision and tools be commonplace in our students' vocabulary.
So exciting!
PERSEVERANCE: Character Trait Focus for April
Perseverance--overcoming challenges and sticking with something, even when it is hard.
CVA's 1st annual "EGGSTRASPECIAL" SATURDAY was an EGG-CELLENT SUCCESS!!
Thank you also to everyone who donated eggs and candy - our event would not have been as successful without the 4000+ eggs that were donated!! Congratulations to Mr. Schineller's 5th grade class, with the highest contribution!

CMAS is here again and CVA is requesting that all students attend school EVERY DAY!
It is even MORE essential that all students grades 3-8 attend every morning during the time frame listed above. The CMAS test allows CVA a standardized snapshot of each of our students and their level of learning in comparison to other students across the nation. It really is a well written test that will begin to show us the improved level of learning and THINKING that we are working to grow in ourselves and our students at CVA. Please help us take this test seriously by getting your children to school on time every day! THANKS so much!

CVA's Buddy Bench has been moved to its new location!
Boy Scout Pack #341 took some time from their spring break to install CVA's Buddy Bench!
The Buddy Bench was a Silver Award Project completed by Girl Scout Troop #579 earlier this school year, and Pack 341 has relocated it to its new home in our playground.
Thank you so much to everyone who put their time, sweat and love into this bench!! CVA is appreciative of all the hard work, and we love our Buddy Bench!
