NEWSLETTER | TERM 4, WEEK 3 | 31 OCTOBER 2019
"Trust in God who helps you in all things."
St. Mary of the Cross MacKillop
From the Principal
Dear Parents and Carers
Tomorrow we will have All Saints Day Mass at 10:00am. All parents and carers are invited to attend. Please keep in your thoughts and prayers the Year 3 students who will be making their First Reconciliation on Saturday 16 November.
A reminder that the P&F and School Board AGMs will be held on Monday 11 November at 7:00pm in the Kalyara Mia undercover area. Many thanks to the people who have nominated for the School Board positions in 2020. Just a reminder that the Board role is to oversee school finances, and its members are not involved in the day to day running of the school, employment of staff or the set school budget. The P&F roles are to raise money for resources for the school and organise community building events within the school and wider community.
A survey was sent out last week for families to complete. It is also attached to this newsletter, I would ask families to complete it by Wednesday 13 November. The information from the survey will help the school plan for the future.
Sincere thanks go to the P&F and the Year 3 classes for organising Grandparents and Friends Day yesterday. There was a huge turnout and it was a great success. I would like to thank Mr Chatt and the parents involved in organising our Interschool Athletics squad and the training that prepared the students for the day.
We had some great individual successes and overall it was a very successful carnival.
God bless.
Allen McMahon
Principal

Year 1 Learn About Baptism
Our Year 1 children are enjoying learning the Sacrament of Baptism and recalling their own Baptism, visiting the church with a doll to re-enact a Baptism. We’ve also learnt about the symbols of Water, Oil, Candle and the White Garment. We’ve read the story about Jesus' Baptism, and John the Baptist as well.
ASCS Interschool Athletics Carnival
On Friday 25 October selected students from Years 3 to 6 attended the ASCS Interschool Athletics Carnival. The students represented St Columba’s, competing against five other schools, over various events including race distances, turbojav, shot put, long jump, relays and games. The students were wonderful at cheering the school and its competitors on. At the end of the carnival our athletics squad was awarded fifth place based on average points per student. We came third in the schools raw score and the most represented school for student awards.
A special congratulations to Cole, awarded Year 6 Champion Boy, Lachlan awarded Year 5 Runner-up Boy, Anna awarded Year 5 Champion Girl and Isabella awarded Year 4 Runner-up Girl. We are proud of our students’ efforts, displaying their athletic abilities and being excellent representatives of our school. A big thank you to Mr Popadynec, Mrs Davis and our many parent helpers for they time to assist with coaching the squad leading up to the event.
