Conferences October 25-28
Students will be released early, for conferences, on October 25-28. They will be released at 12:30 PM each of those four days. On Tuesday, October 25th, we will have arena conferences from 1 PM to 3 PM in our gyms. We will do the same from 4 PM to 6 PM on Thursday, October 27th. With arena conferences, parents can come and meet with teachers in an open house type format during those two hour blocks. Parents can choose to visit all six of their child’s teachers or just a few of them that they would like to connect with. In addition to our arena conferences, on the other days, teachers schedule specific times to meet with parents who they call and invite to attend a conference. If you do not get a call to attend a specific conference and would like to meet with your child’s teachers, please plan to come during one of the two arena conference sessions.
🔴 BUS LANE ETIQUETTE 🔴
Please refrain from parking along the curb in front of the building at all times. If you are picking up or dropping of your student, there are parking spots available in front of the school for your use. The curb area is reserved for delivery vehicles and busses before school, after school and for our mid-day pickups and drop offs. Thank you.
Science Assignment for Parents and Guardians
Your homework for the next week is to preserve thermal energy.
That is, the thermal energy of young people in our community who may be without coats this winter. We have extended the collection of coats for the KXLY COATS FOR KIDS! through conference week. We ask that that you bring a new, or gently used coat with you to your student’s conference next week to donate to this worthy cause.
Set a good example, and don’t forget your homework!
FUND RUN IS BACK!
Horizon's annual Fund Run is coming! After being canceled a few years due to the Pandemic, the Fund Run is back!
Horizon's Hawk Trot will be Wednesday, November 23rd. That's the day before Thanksgiving, so we'll burn some calories before the big feast day.
The money raised goes directly into our ASB budget. Our ASB supports many school activities including band, choir, orchestra, field trips, and intramurals, as well as interscholastic activities like guest speakers at assemblies and athletics. We know that students who participate in extracurricular activities and/or athletics have better attendance and academic success than students who do not and we work hard to provide diverse opportunities for all of our student body, but we can't do it without the support of our students, families, and community.
We will collect donations through an online portal and there will be great prizes for those students who bring in money, including some fun incentives for those who donate the most. This is a fun competition that benefits everyone. Horizon brings in thousands of dollars that we spend on students!
More details to come, but get ready to get your Hawk Trot on!
These fun 6th graders took advantage of the opportunity to learn some volleyball skills from Coach Collins. Thanks for showing up and doing such a great job!
7TH GRADE MEDIEVAL FEAST
Attention 7th Grade Parents:
The Medieval Feast is a 7th grade activity to culminate the unit of study surrounding Medieval Times during the 1st semester. The first hour is filled with a Medieval Feast, the second hour has Medieval games and community members who live and breathe the Renaissance. We are the only school in the district that has an event like this...it is incredible and the kids love it. The event is Tuesday, November 29th.
Your child will draw from one of the Medieval characters during class very soon and wear a costume that resembles that Medieval character. Please ask your child who they will be for the feast.
If your child has 3rd period History with Fey, Black, Day or Bianco, they will feast from 9:30-11:10.
If your child has 5th period History with Black, Bowman, or Clark, they will feast from 11:40-1:20.
