Our Spirit Week is next week - September 20th -24th. We will have dress-up days during the week, and in the place of a Pep Rally, we will have a parade outside on campus on Wednesday. We will end the week with our Color Fun/ Color Run Day on Friday, September 24th.

Yes, this is a week of many FUN activities. Researchers have documented a rise in mental health problems and this has paralleled with the lack of opportunity for students to play and have fun. It has been noted in research that adolescents need to take time to play.

For these reasons, we do value playing and having fun. Are academics important, absolutely, but we want to make sure we allow time for our students to have fun too!

Welcome to Bumpus - 7th Grade Assistant Principal - Mrs. Pam Davis

Mrs. Pam Davis was approved at the HBOE meeting on Tuesday night. She comes to us from Jefferson County where she has been an Assistant Principal for the last 5 years. Prior to that she was a middle School math teacher. Mrs. Davis can be reached by email at pdavis@hoover.k12.al.us

Backpacks and Chromebooks

Students should not bring backpacks or chromebooks to school on Friday, September 24 for the Color Run.

If students bring a phone to school, they will be kept with the Homeroom Teacher during the Color Run. After the Color Run, students will be able to use them appropriately to take pictures with friends.

Checkouts will be difficult so if students are going to need to checkout on Friday, parents should check out students out prior to the run ...... before 1pm.

September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. Suicide Prevention Week is 9/5 to 9/11, 2021

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Suicide is the second leading cause of death for young people ages 10 – 24. It is also one of the leading causes of PREVENTABLE death. We lose approximately 130 young people nationwide in this age group to suicide each week. FOUR out of FIVE teens who attempt suicide have given clear warning signs. That means in 80% of these cases we have an opportunity to intervene and possibly save a young person who is at-risk.

If you are immediately concerned about your child or a friend, text Crisis Text Line at 741741 or call the Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255). These services are free, confidential and available 24/7.

In order to better serve our students this year, we would like to have your input on the Counseling Department here at Bumpus. Please know we take your comments and concerns into consideration, but may not be able to do or address every idea that is given to us. Please fill out the form at BUMPUS NEEDS ASSESSMENT by September 10. Thank you again for your help!

If your child has ANY symptoms of illness, please keep him/her at home until you can determine the cause of the symptoms. If your child has symptoms and they have been tested for COVID-19, they must remain home until the COVID-19 test results are reported to you. Per the ADPH Back to School Guidance, if your child has symptoms and has a negative covid test result, the child should stay home for 10 days UNLESS a healthcare provider issues an alternate diagnosis. We don't need to know the specific diagnosis but we need to know there is a diagnosis other than COVID-19 to explain the symptoms. When students report to school with symptoms of illness and subsequently test positive for COVID-19, they have exposed countless others, creating multiple close contact individuals and additional COVID positive cases. Please refer to the ADPH Back to School Guidance pages numbered 13 and 15, or your personal Healthcare Professional if you have questions. https://www.alabamapublichealth.gov/covid19/assets/cov-school-guidance-073021.pdf

FACIAL COVERINGS REQUIRED for the first 30 days (August 10th - September 21st).
