We are excited to announce that Shiloh Elementary will be offering a FREE program
called Play 2 Learn, for ages birth to 5 along with a parent or guardian!
Shiloh ES will be offering this new class once a week, every Friday from 8:30am - 10:00am starting September 18th and going through May. You do not have to live in our school district to register, you just need to live anywhere in Gwinnett county.
** During this time of Covid-19, parent/caregiver has the choice between Digital OR In-Person instruction for the Play 2 Learn class. Digital instruction will be every Friday, 8:30-9:00 am and In-Person instruction will be every Friday, 9:00-10:00 am. Once the time comes where digital is no longer an option for GCPS students, the Play 2 Learn class will go back to In-Person instruction only, 8:30-10:00 am every Friday.

My name is Daniela Uribe, a member of the Hatch Learning teaching team and a student at Stanford University! I attended Centerville Elementary School all 6 years, and it is with the fondness that I have for this school that I am reaching out regarding a remote extracurricular class for your K-2 student.
Hatch Learning, a Stanford University-based education institute, is offering a 10-week course on computational thinking (the foundation of computer science problem-solving) for young students. The course uses the innovative PockeTurtle curriculum, designed by Stanford Artificial Intelligence professor David Zhu and currently taught at thousands of schools throughout China, Korea, and Palo Alto.
The colorful, game-based curriculum uses a beginner-friendly web application to train children to fully visualize solutions by ‘teaching’, or programming, a turtle robot to solve stimulating problems. This fall, we will be running classes through video-conferencing, with each class consisting of one teacher and 4-5 students. My fellow 90+ teachers are students at Stanford, Princeton, Columbia, and many other elite universities, and all have extensive teaching experience.
CLICK HERE to choose a class that fits your schedule.
The registration deadline for students is September 23rd at 11:59pm PST!
If you have any questions, please email nazanin@hatchlearning.org or brendan@hatchlearning.org. We look forward to bringing the power of computational thinking to your students!
Shiloh Elementary School Announcement
Parents, in your child's Digital Learning Packet, that you picked up on our Open House Day before the start of school, was a note card with your child's name and a bar code on it. Please be sure to keep this note card and send it to school with your child if they are doing in-person learning (Digital learners please still hang onto this note card for when your student does return to In-person)... this note card will be used daily for going through the lunch and breakfast lines and for checking out books in the library once a week, as well as checking out chrome books for our digital students. We are getting rid of the key pad system.
The Families First Coronavirus Response Act
The Families First Coronavirus Response Act includes a benefit called Pandemic-EBT (P-EBT) for children who received free or reduced-price school meals in the 2019-2020 school year, but their school is was closed.
If your family is currently receiving SNAP, you may not need to apply for P-EBT. We will make every attempt to match our SNAP records with information provided in the Department of Education files. The P-EBT amount for each eligible child is $256.50.
The P-EBT application was released on July 28, 2020. Applicants will have 60 days to request benefits before the application cycle cloases on Sept 25.
