KNIFE SKILLS AND SAFETY {NEW!}


Improve your knife skills for cooking! In this class you will learn how to properly and safely handle knives. While learning how to dice, julienne, and slice, you will improve coordination between hands and learn how to move your knife ergonomically. The class will cover different types of knives such as the chef knife, paring knife, boning knife, and more. Learn about using knives with the C-claw or rocking motion and types of cutting boards to match the knife you are using. Learn the safe way to sharpen knives and how to cut an onion without tears. Knives, cutting boards, and materials will be provided.

PICKLEBALL CLINICS

Pickleball is a combination of table tennis, badminton, and tennis. Indoor pickleball is played on a badminton court in the gym with a wooden paddle or racquet and a ball that is similar to a wiffle ball. It is a low impact sport that is fun for all ages. You will learn the fundamentals of the game such as: rules, etiquette, basic strokes, and strategy. Each session will include instructional time, drills, and play time. All equipment will be provided!

DIARY OF A LAWN OUTLAW


Learn how to create native gardens in your backyard by following the journey of the instructor over the last five years as she gradually replaced most of her lawn with woodland, prairie and rain gardens.


This workshop will cover reasons to use native plants, site planning and what factors to consider in choosing native plants. Finally, we will investigate incorporating stone, wood and garden decorations in native gardens using a basic design philosophy of Frank Lloyd Wright.

WRITING YOUR MEMOIR


Everyone has unique experiences and stories to tell. In this course author Mark Tully will guide you through the steps of writing and publishing your own life story. Through a series of discussions and writing exercises, we will cover such topics as finding your voice, writing styles and stylistic approaches, the fundamentals of storytelling, plus we will explore techniques for triggering and opening up your memories.


In addition we will discuss how you can take the final step and actually self-publish your memoir! We will talk about basic document layout, choosing typefaces, document formatting and word processing software options, and options for small-run publishing of your completed memoir!

COED T-BALL


This is an introduction to America’s Favorite Pastime. The program is designed to introduce the skills and fundamentals of baseball and softball such as base running, hitting, throwing, and fielding. Volunteer parent coaches are needed. Each player receives a hat and T-shirt.

INTRO TO GOLF

In this program, your child will learn how to drive, chip, and putt with guidance. Our instructors show the participants the proper techniques and teaching hints to be most successful for this age group. We will use the innovative line of SNAG Golf products. All the equipment will be provided.

SUMMER GOLF CAMP


This program will introduce the basics of golf swing, golf etiquette, and the game of golf to your child in a fun and relaxed environment. Camp will be instructed by Lake Wisconsin CC Head Golf Professional, Chris Johnson, and staff. Each day after the camp, players will be allowed to play holes on the golf course. Parents can pick up their child directly after the camp or once contacted after playing a few holes.

Emphasis on skill development and mastery of core techniques through individual, small group practices and coached games. Session runs 12:00-3:00 p.m.

Open Swim/Lap Swim/Water Exercise
Open swim hours are Saturday and Sunday afternoons from 1:00-5:00 for all ages and lap lanes are available. Tuesday and Thursday evenings the pool is open 7:30-8:30 for lap swimmers. Water exercise and Lunch Lap is open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday on normal school days 11:30-12:30 PM.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

United Way Scholarship Fund

United Way has donated funds for the Sauk Prairie Recreation Department to fund a scholarship program. Our Department started a “no questions asked” policy with awarding scholarships if a child wants to participate in a recreation program. The Department’s only request is that the participants pay for what they can afford and the Department will cover the remainder of the fees. If interested in scholarship assistance for any Recreation Department program, please contact us. Scholarships can only be processed in the office and not online.
