Mrs. Flynn's Class
Updates, Reminders, and Fun Things to Try!
Class News
Grades - Last week we took our regular weekly reading test and spelling test. I did not enter those grades into the gradebook. I will begin recording those grades this week. The weekly reading test we did together.
Parent Information Night
3rd Grade teachers are hosting a Parent Information Night. Parents can drop their kiddos off at the gym to watch a movie while they go to the classroom to learn about their child's classroom and Sunflower itself.Homework: Students will normally have a math homelink or math worksheet for homework most nights except for Friday. They will also need to get in some reading and study spelling words as you can.
Curriculum: Make sure you check out our website at http://www.sunflowerthirdgrade.com
We have a lot of resources on our website.
Communications--The students are tested each Friday on the reading skill/strategy, vocabulary, and word analysis that we learned about throughout the week. Students will also have a spelling test on Friday.
Math - We have Everyday Math - which is what the students had last year so they are familiar with it. We have Unit Assessments - study guides can be found on our third-grade website that can be printed out and worked on and turned in for extra credit.
Social Studies - My World Communities - students have a worktext that we will work in together. They may use the book when we take chapter tests.
Science - They will go see Mrs. Weber for science -if you have any questions her email is kim_weber@usd368.org
Login/Passwords-
Students have set their Google passwords and we will begin to use technology resources in the classroom.
MAP Testing- The first week of September we will take the MAP reading and math tests. These tests give us valuable information about your child's specific academic needs. We use it to place them into an appropriate MTSS group. It is important that your child do their best and not "click through" just to be done. Closer to the date I will have a schedule of when we test, please make sure your student arrives on time and has had a healthy breakfast either at home or school.
AR Goals- students wrote their AR point goals in their planner last Friday - please note that students not only have to make their point goal but also maintain an 80% comprehension. They have to have both met in order to have met their goal.

General Class Information
Parent Communication
I feel communication between us is very important. I will send out emails, notices through Bloomz (more info below) and student work through seesaw. The two main apps I would like you to download if possible are Bloomz and seesaw. Bloomz will allow messaging for reminders, volunteer sign-ups (this is where our holiday party sign-ups are), class wishlist signups, student behavior monitoring, and eventually parent teacher conference scheduling.
The other app is seesaw. This is a student portfolio app. This is not something that is required, but you will have access to see your student's work and some of the things they do,
AR (Accelerated Reader)
AR - Students read at home -suggested 20 minutes a night. They are given a point goal for the quarter. Picture books are worth .5, or half a point. Chapter books can range in point value depending on their content. In order for students to make their goal, they need to have reached their point goal along with keeping an overall 80% comprehension. Please encourage your child to take the AR quizzes. Students can only take quizzes at school. Parents can login to homeconnect (link below in the techie tools) with their student's login information and check their progress. You can also set it up to receive an email with your student's scores when they take a quiz.
Planner
Students will bring home their planner every night. They should have it filled out with they day's information, and parents should sign it nightly. Also, any extra work students do such as, get online on one of our classroom sites, study flashcards, study spelling words, or study math facts - write that in the planner and students will earn extra dojo points. Also, you can write transportation notes or questions in the planner.
School Store
School store is normally the first Friday of the month. Students may bring money to purchase panther related items at lunch.
