Saluda Shoals Trip 10.6.14

We are so excited about our upcoming trip! Thanks to everyone for getting the forms submitted so quickly.

Just a friendly reminder to pay the $18 to cover transportation for our 4 trips to Saluda Shoals this year. This is a one time fee. :-)

When we have field trips to Saluda Shoals, please have your child wear closed toed shoes on the day of the field trip! Dress for the weather because half of their day will be outside. I will remind you of this closer to the date.

This week we our pulling our knowledge together by creating political cartoons of one of the groups we have been investigating during the Reconstruction. We began this process by analyzing political cartoons with the following steps:

  • What do we notice?
  • What questions do we have?
  • What features of the illustration did we use to gain meaning?
  • What is the purpose of the political cartoon?
Our next step was to apply our knowledge of political cartoons to our own political cartoon. We are very excited about the illustrations we created. They will be bound into our very own book to support our learning in the classroom.

Our Reconstruction unit of study test was today. We approached our first test of the year as genre and noticed characteristics of the structure and format. We thought as test makers and their intent with the questions. Then, we were strategic test takers using strategies to assist us in eliminating answer choice and selecting the best answer.
