Principal's Corner
Winter Break is just around the corner and there will be sixteen days that we will not have the opportunity of teaching your child. It is very important to have your child read each and everyday. If you have access to the internet, your child can log onto our online learning apps during break as well. IXL, Reflex Math, and Moby Max are available to help keep your child learning and practicing skills during the break. NWEA Reading and NWEA Math testing will begin the week of January 6. Practicing skills at home over winter break will help your child stay on top of what they have learned so far this year.If you need your child’s login information, please contact his/her teacher and they will be able to get that for you.

Media Center News
Happy December! November flew by and we had a great time with picture book month in media class!
Currently we are finishing up our Mock Caldecott unit and students are voting this week for their favorite picture book! 2nd graders are using a paper ballot and 3rd graders are taking a poll on Google Classroom.
Next week is Hour of Code week! Students love coding games! Students can code at home by going to Information Place: https://sites.google.com/waylandunion.org/libraries/home
or Hour of Code: https://code.org/learn. Next week we will be going on Hour of Code to practice coding games like Minecraft, Star Wars and Dance Party.
Have fun coding and Happy Holidays!

The World of Art
Second Grade- The month of November second graders reviewed 5 of the art elements. They made turkeys and each feather was done using an element of art. We had some fancy turkey feathers with line, color, shape, texture, and value designs.
Third Grade- THANK YOU PARENTS! The greeting card designs were so fun and turned out beautiful. Thank you to all the parents that ordered. They should be arriving soon! With the orders, $3 from each box came back to our art program. You helped raise more than $200 for our art room! Thank you so much for your support! I can't wait for the cards to arrive!!

A Note From Music Class
November was a fast month for music!
Second graders sang songs with names in them (Old Dan Tucker & Old Joe Clark) and we discussed what made these songs "tall tale" folk songs. The students also did a folk dance to Old Dan Tucker. They were able to explore music centers for a day in music. This included a music coloring sheet, playing BUSTED!, a rhythm making/practicing center and playing music games on iPads. The students also sang Thanksgiving songs focusing on call and response songs and played the xylophones.
Third Graders are continuing to learn about their new music note - watermelon. We started off November singing some spirituals - Oh Won't You Sit Down & Follow the Drinking Gourd. The students were able to explore music centers for a day in music. This included a music coloring sheet, playing BUSTED!, a rhythm making/practicing center and playing music games on iPads. They also used xylophones to keep a beat with a song for Thanksgiving. The students learned about Blues music after singing the song Thanksgiving Blues.
*Third Graders will be having a Music program at the end of March.

Physical Education Fun
The past few weeks in P.E. we've been working on volleyball. We started by practicing underhand serves and overhand serves and then played a game called volleyball survivor to work on serving. Then we worked on bumping and setting and played a game called volleyball battleship to work on accuracy of our hits. We finished with a week of playing a modified volleyball game to work on hits and general strategy of the game. To finish up December we will be playing winter games to celebrate winter break.
Our students of the month for November:
2nd grade-Kendall Jackson, Payton Evans, Korben Makowski, and Brayden Taylor
3rd grade-Vivian Gless, Emery Dollarhide, Carter Bultje, and Reid Kerkemeyer.
