May It Be of Benefit
Hello Families,
Things are really moving along here at school as we head into the last "real" month of school. We do go to school for the first few days of June, but May will really feel like our last "month" of school. Some highlights I should mention are that we just finished our first week of state testing in grades 3 through 5, and things went very well. Thank you for getting your children to school on time and well-rested so that they could be fresh as they logged into the tests each morning. This last week, most students took the English Language Arts "multiple choice" section, and 5th graders also took the Science portion of the test. This coming week, we will take on the English Language Arts "performance task" which is an integrated reading and writing piece, and students will also take the math computer adaptive test. Please keep up the good practices you've been doing with lots of sleep and hearty breakfasts; both really help students do their best.
Also, our Cross Country team just finished their short but very fun season. Thank you to our coach, Mrs. McCauley, and the other staff members who assisted her, and congratulations to our runners. Below is a short slideshow with some pictures of our runners at their last meet. Next week, our boys 4/5 Softball season begins. For this sport, because there are fewer participants, we are able to allow families on campus to watch. Face coverings and 6 feet of distance between families are required.
Finally, we are planning to celebrate and thank our parents on May 10th. As with most things these days, we need to do it a little differently than we've done in the past, but we still want to honor and thank you for the support you've given our school, your teachers, and your students throughout the year. To this end, we will host a drive-through coffee bar from 7:15-8:00 in the cafeteria drive-through. Come anytime between 7:15 and 8 and teachers will hand you a cup of java with optional fixings and a breakfast sandwich- just our way of saying "Thank you" for all you do.
With gratitude,
Mrs. Gold

May is Bike to School Month
Bike to School Day and Bike Month is back in May! Each day students bike to school during the month of May, they can be entered into a drawing to win a gift card to Jamba Juice. Keep track of the days your child bikes to school and record these days on the Bike to School 2021 Survey form at the end of the month. Please complete a new form for each child. Submit the form once for each child by June 1, 2021 for your child to be entered into the drawing. The more times your child bikes to school, the more times their name gets put into the drawing for a Jamba Juice gift card! All students who participate once will get a bike safety light. Let’s see how many miles our students can bike!
If your family cannot bike from home to school, consider starting at a location closer to the school: Examples include a nearby park, business, or church parking lot or any pleasant and safe starting location. Ideal starting points are less than a 3-mile radius from school and include neighborhood streets, trails, and have safe crossings. It may be different than your driving route – you want to ensure that it is comfortable and pleasant for your family.
