Heartland Happenings - February 26, 2023

Notes From Ms. Johnson

Greetings Heartland Thunderhawks!

As I look back on this past week, I can't help but be filled with pride! Pride in all that we accomplished and pride in our ability to come together as a family. We had a memorable week jammed pack with events and activities...and it doesn't stop there! We've got MORE events coming up these last 2 weeks as we slide into Spring Break.

Last Tuesday, we were able to recognize and celebrate those 7th & 8th grade students that qualified to be inducted into the Edmond Honor Society. In order to qualify, each student had to maintain at least a 3.75 GPA or higher for the 2 previous semesters. Academic excellence has always been a priority at EPS and it was wonderful to be able to celebrate the 200+ students that qualified! We also had the pleasure of hosting parent/teacher conferences last Thursday evening. Thank you to all the parents that came out and met with our teachers. It takes a village to raise a child and the more that we can all work together, the more successful our students will be!

Last Friday, we had the distinct honor of welcoming Mayor Darrell Davis to be our keynote speaker at Heartland's first ever Black History Month Assemblies! The assemblies were a celebration of black history with performances from our talented Thunderhawks! We had dancing, singing, stepping, poetry readings, a jazz ensemble, I AM speeches and beautiful artwork on display! Additionally, we invited Santa Fe High Schools' step team, orchestra quartet, saxophone soloist and dance trio join in on the festivities! AND... we were able to invite our feeder elementary school 5th graders to join in on the fun! It was a special moment for our Santa Fe vertical full of education and exhibition! If you haven't already, click the button below to like Heartland's Facebook page to see a few videos of the performances!

Looking ahead, this week we officially start Double PUP Dare Week! PUP week is Heartland's philanthropy week in which we be hosting events to help raise money for EPS' Common Thread - City Care OKC. We have lots of events planned including a Karaoke Dance/Social, Dodgeball Tournament, Dare Assembly, Penny Wars & Dress Up Days! Our goal is to raise $3000 to be presented at SFHS's finale assembly on Friday! Be sure to check out the graphics below and click the PUP Week button to learn more about specific event information. We look forward to promoting how "People Uplifting People" is a great cause worth the investment! The dress up days for PUP week are listed below:

  • Monday (2/27) - Pajama Day!
  • Tuesday (2/28) - Teacher Dress Like Students/Students Dress Like Teachers!
  • Wednesday (3/1) - Dress Like Your Hero Day!
  • Thursday (3/2) - Crazy Sock Day!
  • Friday (3/3) - Heartland Spirit Day!

As always, should you ever have any questions, ideas or suggestions please feel free to reach out to our office! Let's have a wonderful week, Thunderhawks!

WE ARE...HEARTLAND!

Respectfully,

Veronica Johnson

Future 7th Grade (Current 6th) - Immunization Information

Hello, 6th-grade parents and guardians! It will soon be time to enroll your student for next school year, and I wanted to make you aware of an additional immunization requirement prior to entering 7th grade. All 7th-grade students will need documentation to complete the state Tdap vaccine requirement. The Tdap is a booster shot containing Tetanus, Pertussis, and Diphtheria. Many of your students have already received this vaccine, and some of you have provided documentation. If you have not provided documentation, please do so as soon as possible as this will simplify the enrollment process. If you choose for your student to not receive this vaccine, you may complete a vaccine exemption form, found here. Please email shot records and exemption forms to torie.moore@edmondschools.net. Your student will not receive a schedule in August until we have documentation of a Tdap vaccine or a vaccine exemption form. Please let Nurse Moore know if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you!
