In April of 1981 , Wayne Williams changed up is MO. In previous years Williams would dumb his victims in areas of the woods. In 1981 he started dumping his victims in the Chattahoochee River. In late May , a group of law-enforcement officers on surveillance at the river heard a loud splash late at night. On the bridge a car fled the scene and the police pursued and pulled it over. The driver was Wayne Williams. The police had no clue what the splash was , so they had to let Williams go. 2 days later , the body of Nathaniel Cater was found downstream and Williams was brought in for questioning. Wayne's alibi proved weak and he failed several polygraph exams. He was arrested in June of 1981 and found guilty February 27, 1982 for the murder of Nathaniel Cater and Jimmy Ray Payne. The conviction was based on physical evidence...... matching fibers found on the victims and on Williams personal possessions. Also there were eye witnesses.
