Worship with Us Sunday: Words of Life Summer Series
On Father’s Day, we will continue our summer worship series, Words of Life, with a focus on the commandment of honoring our father and mother. The Ten Commandments were given by a loving God who longs to protect us from harm while pointing toward a deeply meaningful and joyful life. Join us Sunday in person or online as we worship together!

Bring Canned Meat Donations on Sunday for Challenge
Our churchwide canned meat challenge, in conjunction with Vista Island Vacation Bible Camp, continues this Sunday. Bring your canned meat donations to church with you and support the Christian Community Action Food Pantry. We’ve collected 427 cans toward our goal of 1,000 canned meat items by Sunday, June 27.
- 1,000 canned meat items collected: snow cones for all Vista Kids/VBC campers after the 11 a.m. worship service on June 27
- 1,500 canned meat items collected: a Vista Island Pirate Party event in August
Leave canned meat donations in the grocery cart in front of the church at any time. Join in the fun for our Vista Kids and support our community partner. The big winner will be the angels served by Christian Community Action.
We provided 400 Vacation Bible School activity bags for the Christian Community Action Kids Eat Free program. Thanks to our Classic Women for stuffing all of the bags.
Retirees Invited to New Harvesters Small Group Virtual Meeting on Saturday
Our new Harvesters small group for retirees will meet Saturday morning on Zoom. The group is open to anyone interested. Participants will have opportunities to discuss how to address challenges and concerns regarding the second half of life, and also share joys, hopes, and inspiration. They will start a book study in July on The Gift of Years: Growing Older Gracefully by Joan Chittister. The group meets on the first and third Saturdays of each month from 10-11 a.m. Email vrumc@vrumc.org to receive the Zoom link.
Adults Needed to Help with At-Home Youth Mission Trip
Our youth will have their at-home mission trip the last week of July and are looking for drivers, chaperones, meal providers, and singers/musicians to help make their week successful.
Youth will be sleeping overnight in their own homes and will meet up at the church each morning to start their days. Participants will be at their worksite throughout the morning, have a sack lunch, and then work until mid-afternoon before returning to the church for some rest and fun time, dinner, and then nightly worship. Saturday will be a fun outing together to celebrate the week.
The mission trip is set for Monday, July 26 to Saturday, July 31, for incoming sixth graders through high school graduates. Adults can serve as both a driver and chaperone if they are staying the entire workday. Musicians and singers are needed each evening. Check out the signup sheet for details. All help is greatly appreciated!
YOUTH MISSION TRIP REGISTRATION
All youth attending the mission trip are asked to register online by Sunday, July 4, so the T-shirt order can be placed. The cost for each youth participant is $25. Complete one form for each youth attending. Please contact Youth Intern Macy Kunke, macy@vrumc.org, if a scholarship is needed to participate. Youth can attend every day or part of the week. Please indicate in the notes section of the registration form if there are conflicts on certain days.
DIRECTOR OF YOUTH MINISTRY POSITION
The Staff-Parish Relations Committee is accepting applications for a Director of Youth Ministry to create and implement an active youth program for our sixth-12th graders. This will include, but not be limited to, introducing, instructing, and nurturing youth in their Christian faith and in life through Bible study, prayer, fellowship, worship, community service, and outreach. This is an exempt, salaried position for 30 hours per week. The job description is currently posted on several online job boards for interested applicants. Those applying for the position need to send a resume and cover letter to youthministry@vrumc.org. SPRC expects to have the position filled this summer.
