We Are #OwatonnaProud
If you see an Owatonna Public Schools student or staff member on the street this summer, please take a moment to congratulate them on successfully navigating a challenging year. In partnership with our families, we have remained #OwatonnaStrong, and for that we should all be #OwatonnaProud.
New Principals for ALC, Wilson
Welcome to Jamie Bates, the new ALC (Area Learning Center) principal. Ms. Bates comes with vast experience working in alternative programs. She began her educational career in 2000 as a history teacher and special education teacher. She served as an assistant principal at Spring ISD and Bay City ISD in Texas and since 2016 has served as a principal in various alternative programs. Ms. Bates brings with her a proven track record of meeting high academic standards, reducing behavior incidents, and developing strong personal relationships with students, teachers, and the community.
“As a principal, it is my responsibility to make sure the needs of the students are being met. My job is to take responsibility for student learning, and build a strong relationship with our community for my campus. I have always loved working with students and it is my goal to make sure they know the importance of their education and that I do everything within my power to make it happen."
Matt Zurbriggen is now serving as principal for Wilson Elementary School. Mr. Zurbriggen previously served as assistant principal at Owatonna Middle School, a position he held for five years.
As Mr. Zurbriggen shared, “My family is beyond excited for this next journey in my professional career. Over the last five years, Owatonna has quickly become home for our family of five - my wife Ashlan, Autumn (age 9), Sienna (7), and Isaiah (3). A strong and loving family is at the root of my being, and as I told the Wilson staff, I can’t wait to join the Wilson family!”
Application for Educational Benefits
Nutrition Services has enjoyed serving breakfast and lunch at no cost for the past two school years, but USDA regulations for 2022-2023 require that meals are full-pay. Families are encouraged to fill out an Application for Educational Benefits as only students with an approved 2022-2023 application on file will receive free or reduced-price meal benefits. A new application must be completed each school year. The application for your family can also help our school district qualify for important federal and state financial resources as well as qualify your family for reduced-price activity fees.
The paper version of the 2022-23 Free Meal Application for Educational Benefits is currently available at isd761.org/district-services/nutrition-services/free-reduced-meal-application. The online application is coming soon.
Meals will be charged full price unless an approved 2022-2023 Application for Educational Benefits is on file.
