If you have a 6th grader, we are honoring each of them with a 6th Grade Spotlight shout out. Please send the answers to the questions along with a picture to Mr. Mahlman at rmahlman@laurelspringschool.org . I will put the spotlight together and then post on Twitter, Instagram, and our website. Examples are below.

Teacher Car parade

Friday, June 5th, 12pm

Laurel Springs, NJ, USA

Laurel Springs, NJ

The teachers of Laurel Springs will be holding a drive by parade on Friday, June 5th, starting at 12PM. We will do our best to hit every street in town. If you live on a dead end street, our recommendation would be to sit in your car outside of your street to comply with the social distancing orders. There should be no congregating in groups. Some special guest teachers from Yellin's 7th and 8th grade classes will also be joining forces with Laurel Springs to participate in the parade. We all miss our students!

One School, One Book- Grumpy Monkey

Our One School, One Book selection for this summer will be Grumpy Monkey by Suzanne Lang and Max Lang. The book is available as a read aloud on youtube or can be ordered online at many retail sites. Activity boards for lower and upper grades will be available soon.

The hilarious #1 New York Times bestselling picture book about dealing with unexplained feelings…and the danger in suppressing them.

Jim the chimpanzee is in a terrible mood for no good reason. His friends can’t understand it–how can he be in a bad mood when it’s SUCH a beautiful day? They encourage him not to hunch, to smile, and to do things that make THEM happy. But Jim can’t take all the advice…and has a BIT of a meltdown. Could it be that he just needs a day to feel grumpy?

Suzanne and Max Lang bring hilarity and levity to this very important lesson. This picture book is an excellent case study in the dangers of putting on a happy face and demonstrates to kids that they are allowed to feel their feelings (though they should be careful of hurting others in the process!).
