Back-to-School Night Information
- Welcome Presentations in the Jaguar Jungle (7:00 - 7:25 PM)
- Classroom Presentations Session 1 (7:30 - 7:55 PM)
- Classroom Presentations Session 2 (8:00 - 8:25 PM)
In an effort to accommodate families with multiple children, teachers will hold two twenty-five-minute sessions. Parents can attend either session 1 or session 2 as the information shared will be the same in both sessions. We kindly ask that children not attend this informative parent evening program. The Jaguar Jungle doors will open at 6:45 PM and parents/guardians are encouraged to visit the tables for various organizations that support our schools - PTO, MEF, SEPAG.
The purpose of the evening is to visit the school to meet your child's teachers, see your child's classroom, secure information about the instructional program planned for your child for this school year, review policies and procedures, establish communication, and provide an opportunity to respond to general questions. Your child's learning experience is paramount, however, please be reminded that back-to-school night is not designed to discuss specific concerns regarding your child. We kindly ask that you contact your child's teacher or school counselor if you have specific concerns to discuss. Please note that classroom teachers will be scheduling individual parent-teacher conferences in November.
The TJS faculty and staff look forward to meeting you, partnering with you, and sharing in an exciting school year ahead!

Fall weather and clothing recommendations:
As we near the end of September, please send your children to school dressed appropriately for the cooler weather. When in doubt, layers are always best. While the building is at a comfortable indoor temperature and at times may still feel warm, temperatures outside will be starting to drop and students may wish to put on a light jacket or sweatshirt.
Tis the season for mosquitos:
I have been seeing several students come in with mosquito bites after being outside at recess or from the night before. If your child is prone to insect bites or has localized reactions, please consider adjusting their wardrobe to prevent significant skin exposure or apply insect repellent prior to coming to school. To help with relieving itchiness, ice packs go a long way! Cool compresses and ice application (with a barrier to the skin) are proven to help reduce inflammation and calm the itch. Topical calamine lotion, hydrocortisone 1% cream and benadryl cream/spray are also effective.
Cold and flu season approaching:
Since this fall is the first in over two years that the children are in school without masks, you may notice that they are coming down with colds and other viruses more frequently. Please use your judgment when sending them to school with any illness. While the common cold is expected and often insignificant, your child may feel very uncomfortable and may benefit from rest at home. If there is any fever present, please keep them home until they are fever-free for a full 24 hours and visit the doctor to ensure they do not have an infection that requires medication. If you have any questions about whether or not to send your child to school, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me (973)- 593-3182 (#3).

News from Librarian Ms. Thomas
Enjoy this weekend’s poem from, Sing a Song of Seasons: A Nature Poem for Each Day of the Year.
“Seven for a Secret”
Anonymous
Seven black birds in a tree,
Count them and see what they be.
One for sorrow
Two for joy
Three for a girl
Four for a boy;
Five for silver
Six for gold
Seven for a secret
That’s never been told.
With two cycles of specials behind us, we concluded library orientation. The younger students have been practicing following directions and learning the magic of Shelf Markers.
The 4th and 5th graders reviewed the routines of the TJS library media center. The students signed their names to the TJS library constitution.
And in case you didn’t know, Mateys, Monday, September 19, is one of Ms. Thomas’s favorite holidays, International Talk Like A Pirate Day. For those of you who remember Cat Eye Thomas, the most well-read pirate on the high seas from her visit during COVID, here is a link to her video.
