BA Students and Staff Participate in National "Start with Hello!" Week
This week was National Start With Hello Week. As of February 2021, 61% of young adults experience "serious loneliness." Reaching out to others who may be experiencing loneliness and starting with a simple "hello" can make a big difference to someone." published by Harvard.Edu Reports. Keep this quote by Suzy Kassem in mind, "Each time a person passes by you and you say "hello" imagine that person turning into a candle. The more positivity, love and light you reflect, the more light is mirrored your way."

The PSAT at Bryan Adams October 24 & 25, 2023
The PSAT will be administered to all 10th graders, Dallas Scholars, and ALL AVID 9th Graders.
Here is some important information about the PSAT and how you can help your student prepare.
The PSAT/NMSQT and PSAT 8/9 are administered each October to 8th and 10th-grade students in Dallas ISD.
About the Test
The assessment comprises three tests and includes 2 hours and 45 minutes of actual testing time, 10 minutes of breaks, and approximately 45 to 50 minutes of administration time. (about 3 hours and 30 minutes total time)
Reading Test: 60 minutes
Writing and Language Test: 35 minutes
Math Test - No Calculator: 15 minutes
Math Test - Calculator: 45 minutes
Reading
The reading test is passages to read and interpret informational graphics. What has been read is used to answer the questions.
Questions ask the test taker to locate a piece of information or an idea stated directly, as is understanding of the author’s words and what they imply. The test taker will need to be able to read between the lines.
Writing and Language
To answer some questions, a single sentence will be used. Other questions require reading the entire piece and interpreting a graphic. A test taker might be asked to choose a sentence that corrects a misinterpretation of a scientific chart or that better explains the importance of the data.
The passages range from arguments to nonfiction narratives and will be about careers, history, social studies, the humanities, and science.
Math
Most math questions are multiple choice, but some, called grid-ins, ask for a written answer rather than selecting the answer. The math test is divided into two sections: Math Test Calculator and Math Test No Calculator. Some parts of the test include several questions about a single scenario.
Students may see sample questions from each section by going to:

Hispanic/Latino students who take the PSAT/NMSQT could be invited to apply for academic recognition as part of the College Board’s National Hispanic Recognition Program, which is an academic honor that may be included on college applications. This recognition does not come with a scholarship, but colleges may use this program to identify academically exceptional Hispanic/Latino students. Find more information at The College Board National Recognition Programs .

U.S. News & World Report Ranks Bryan Adams High School Among Best High Schools
Washington, D.C. – August 29, 2023 – Bryan Adams High School has been ranked No. 3,977 in the nation among the 2023-2024 Best High Schools by U.S. News & World Report. The rankings evaluate more than 17,600 schools at the national, state and local level.
The school was also ranked No. 347 in Texas and No. 2 in Dallas ISD Comprehensive High Schools as shown at www.usnews.com/education/best-high-schools/texas/districts/dallas-independent-school-district/bryan-adams-high-school-18912.
The methodology focuses on six indicators of school quality: college readiness; breadth of curriculum; scores on state proficiency tests; performance in reading, math, and science; underserved student performance; and graduation rates.
“Having access to a strong high school program is paramount for students as they face an ever-changing world,” says Liana Loewus, managing editor of education at U.S. News. “Making data on our high schools available helps parents ensure their child is in the educational environment that best sets them up to thrive.”
We are proud of this monumental achievement. Bryan Adams students, staff, and community deserve this recognition for their hard work and dedication to excellence.
Family and Community Engagement
Bryan Adams Families, DISD is asking for families to complete this form about family and community engagement at BA.
They challenged us to get 235 responses by Oct 31st and I told them our parents could meet that goal this week!!!
I’m looking for 235 families to please complete this feedback form and let us know how we can continue to support your student and our community
Student Volunteer Hours - Update
Many of you have asked me how students can earn hours and how many do they need. Students must have a total of 20 hours per school year to graduate with the Community Service Regalia.
Starting with the class of 2027 and beyond, all students must graduate with a total of 80 service hours.
Below is the breakdown of hours:
Class of 2024 - 20 Hours
Class of 2025 - 40 Hours
Class of 2026 - 60 Hours
Class of 2027+ - 80 Hours
Students can complete community service in a variety of ways:
1. Join PTSA for 5 hours!
2. Join the BA Booster for 5 Hours!
3. Chaperone a Field Trip for your child (they earn the hours!)
4. Donate supplies/food for activities and events on campus
5. Service Hours On Your Own - pick up a volunteer hours sheet in room D201
Students are responsible for tracking their numbers and keeping up with them year to year.
While students can "stack hours", we do not recommend it. This could overwhelm your student. We want them to enjoy giving back to the community in a balanced way.
