College & Career Outreach Meeting - May 20

How to Pay for College Without Breaking the Bank.

May 20 - 5:30 - 7 p.m.

Anacortes High School Library

Financial aid, in the form of scholarships, loans and grants, may be the first thing that comes to mind. But there is so much more to it than that! It is about understanding how a student can position themselves to be most competitive, most desirable, to a school of their choice. It is about finding colleges that are generous with the type of financial aid your family needs. It is about making sure the student attends a college where they are most likely to succeed and graduate within four years. It is about learning to plan, years ahead, and save. It is about maximizing the high school experience through participation and doing your best academically. And more.

On May 20th we'll do a review of these topics: how do we find the right school, how does your student become competitive for a given school, and a more in-depth look at what constitutes financial aid.

For students starting high school next year this is an outstanding time to get started, and for those already in high school we'll provide good information to get you started or continue on your college search path.

Remember, students and parents can attend together or separately, and all are welcome.

RFP available to lease space for early learning

The Anacortes School District is issuing a Request for Proposals (RFP) to lease space at the Whitney Early Childhood Education Center with a preference given to programming that supports early learning for children ages 3-5.

Earlier this spring, the district made the difficult decision to end its district-run, tuition-based preschool program due to budget constraints. Since that time, several groups have shown interest in taking over the program.

“The RFP process allows us to fairly evaluate all proposals and choose the one that makes the most fiscal sense for the district and best serves our future students,” said Superintendent Mark Wenzel.

The complete RFP is posted on the district’s website: http://www.asd103.org/departments_and_programs/finance_and_operations. Proposals are due by noon on Thursday, May 30, addressed to: Anacortes School District, Attention Fran McCarthy, 2200 M Avenue, Anacortes, WA 98221.

Questions? Contact Fran McCarthy, Executive Director of Student Support Services, (360) 503-1216 or fmccarthy@asd103.org
