Ribbon Cutting for NPS Gaga Pits
The HSA purchased two Gaga Pits. One is outside in the front lot for 2/3 and 4/5 recess. The other is a mobile pit, which will be used this year for indoor P.E. Thank you so much for this generous gift. The students love it!
A special thanks to parent volunteers, Stan France, Joel Schreiber, Jim Monagle, and Chad Goonan for building the outdoor Gaga Pit last weekend.
On Tuesday, we had a special ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate this amazing contribution to the NPS community. Please check out the video below!
Community Day
On Wednesday, for Cool to Be Kind Community Day, our K/1 students had the opportunity to visit with the Morristown and Morris Township Police Department, the Morris Township Fire Department, the Office of Emergency Management, and the Morris County Sheriff's Office.
Our students learned about the important services these community workers provide us. Each class got to meet with members from each department to learn about what they did for our community. Students loved meeting the K-9 officer and dog! In addition, students had a chance to tour a real life fire truck.
We sincerely thank the Morristown and Morris Township Police Department, the Morris Township Fire Department, the Office of Emergency Management, and the Morris County Sheriff's Office for their participation and enthusiasm for Community Day.
A special thanks to Mrs. Richardson, Mr. Russell, and Mrs. Gilson for their help organizing the event.
Primary Field Day
On Friday afternoon, the Primary Unit had their Field Day. We were lucky to have such wonderful sunny weather! Mr. Glenn planned a fun day of fitness and games. Thank you Mr. Glenn for all your hard work! A special thanks to all the parent volunteers for their help and support. In addition, we had some former NPS students come to volunteer their time.
During Field Day, students rotated as classes through fun, engaging game stations. Students got to play Gaga ball in the new outdoor Gaga Pit! They got to dodge and throw in Pinball, where student teams aimed to knock the opposing teams bowling pins down! They ran around for Scatter Tag and Stuck in the Mud! They even got wet at the Sponge Bob water station!
Students were moving, smiling, and having fun the whole time!
Dietician Visit
Thank you to Monica Hansen of the Shoprite of Greater Morristown for coming in and presenting to our Intermediate and Senior students.
Intermediate and Senior students learned about a variety of fruits and vegetables. They also measured how much sugar is in soda, Snapple, and Gatorade.
Guest Chef
Thank you to Chef Luis, Ms. Audrey, and Ms. Megan for a wonderful meal. We always appreciate the work that you do!
On Thursday, Chef Luis came to NPS to make a special meal for the students. He prepared Chick Lomein and Eggrolls. It was delicious!
Kindergarten Orientation
Incoming students and their families will have the opportunity to visit Normandy Park School on Friday, June 7th. Future K students will have a chance to visit the classroom and complete a guided activity around next year's theme (Knowledge is our Superpower!). Students will also have a chance to ride on a Morris School District Bus. Parents will meet with me in the Computer lab for a brief informational orientation to discuss what to expect next year!
Transition Day
On June 7th, students who will be moving up next year (i.e. to the Intermediate or Senior Unit) will get a chance to visit a Senior or Intermediate classroom. This does not have any impact on class placement. It is intended to allow students to see what the next unit is like!
During this time, 5th graders will be meeting in the Gym with Erica Hartman, our Director of Technology Integration, to review digital citizenship.
Pennies for Patients Campaign
On Friday, we concluded our Pennies for Patients campaign. The Student Council, Ms. Polcaro, and Ms. Black helped collect and organize classroom coin collection boxes for donations. Thank you for your time, help, and support.
The money raised went directly to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. To learn more about the program, please feel free to visit their website at https://www.studentseries.org/
Funds raised help provide patient services, such as co-pay assistance and transportation, and help doctors and scientists develop new lifesaving treatments. As of 5/30, NPS raised over $3,400 online! We are still awaiting totals for classroom collections! Thank you to all that contributed.
Stay tuned for the overall total!
