Alief ISD News and Recognitions
Alief ISD high school students were named Advanced Placement (AP) Scholars.
Elizabeth Ogolo (Elsik), Rahawa Ghebrelul (Kerr), Joshua Lu (Kerr), Michelle Zheng (Kerr) and Eder Sanchez (Taylor) were named AP Scholars with Distinction. This is the highest AP Scholar honor and is awarded to students who receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams.
Alief ISD also had 13 AP Scholars with Honor (students who receive an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP exams taken and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams) and 38 AP Scholars (students who receive scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP exams).
The Alief Center for Advanced Careers building was awarded Outstanding Design by American School & University Magazine.
PBK Architects was utilized to build the facility, which was designed with the context of the community in mind and designed to enhance student learning.
Alief ISD's Veterinary Science Program was highlighted by ABC 13.
Hastings High School Athletic Coordinator and Head Football Coach David Martel was selected as the Houston Texans Coach of the Week.
Brett Stewart from the Houston Texans and two Houston Texans cheerleaders presented Martel with a framed certificate signed by Texans Coach Bill O’Brien and a $2,500 check for his football program. The Fighting Bears will also be supplied Gatorade products for the remainder of the season.
Taylor High School was spotlighted by FOX 26.
Taylor High School was featured during the station's Friday Football Fever morning segment on September 6.
Mata Intermediate School student Rayne Donahue received a proclamation from Mayor Sylvester Turner.
She has been working hard to help the less fortunate youth in her community by providing them with supplies to excel in school through her organization Raynebows Backpacks. Her efforts to serve others have earned her several awards and recognitions.
Hastings Ninth Grade Center student Juanita Omeje recently conducted field research in Costa Rica.
JASON Learning student argonaut Juanita Omeje recently conducted research in the field in Costa Rica on the conservation of wild bees and other pollinators. Omeje was selected as a JASON Learning student argonaut last school year when she was attending O'Donnell Middle School.
