NSD is Launching ParentSquare Communication Tool for Families
Canyon Creek Elementary and Northshore School District are committed to continually evaluating and improving our communication services and supports for families and students.
We are excited to announce that the District has adopted a new communication tool called ParentSquare. This multilingual communications platform is designed to keep families, guardians, staff, and middle and high school students informed and encourage greater engagement and connection with our school and the District.
ParentSquare will go live on January 23, 2023 for the District and our school office.
ParentSquare will provide families and students streamlined communications, responsive to your needs including, but not limited to:
Communication in your preferred language;
Messages from our school or the District via email, text, or app notification;
Opportunity to receive information as it is sent, or all at once with a daily digest at the end of the day;
Ability to reply to staff directly from a post (similar to social media) in the app;
Direct messaging to staff; and
Ability to sign up for conferences, sign forms, permission slips, and much more all from your mobile device or computer.
How to Get Started with ParentSquare
You can activate your ParentSquare account in three ways:
Option 1:
Use the email (or text message if you do not have an email on file with the District) that was sent to you on Jan. 9 from the sender ParentSquare, inviting you to join the platform.
When you click the button that reads “Activate your account” in the email, you will be asked to create a password and login using the email address you have on file with the District.
Option 2:
Visit the ParentSquare website and use the email account or phone number you have on file with the District to activate your account; or
Option 3:
Download the ParentSquare app on your iOS or Android phone and request activation. To take full advantage of ParentSquare’s functionality we recommend everyone downloads the ParentSquare app for even easier access to school and District information.
Once you have activated your account, ParentSquare will connect you to your student(s) enrolled in our school and any other schools in Northshore.
After you’re logged into your account, you can also access help articles for more information on navigating and using ParentSquare.
Need Help Activating your Account or Have Questions?
More information about ParentSquare and a FAQ (including an overview of Northshore student technology applications) can be found on our District’s website. Students in middle and high school will use StudentSquare within the new communication platform. Information about StudentSquare will be shared with families later this week and sent directly to your student.
We look forward to sharing more information and connecting with you on ParentSquare soon!
Congratulations to Our Caring Coyotes!!
Canyon Creek students work very hard to show our Canyon Creek Coyote traits; "I am kind. I am safe. I am a learner." Our staff recognizes these positive behaviors by handing out “Caring Coyote” tickets. Students who earn one will be put into a weekly drawing for a certificate and a book. At the end of each month, our winning coyotes will have a pizza lunch with Principal Doyle and Assistant Principal Richardson! We want Canyon Creek students to show the Coyote traits while at school and also around the community. Families, you can join us by recognizing when our Coyotes are being KIND, SAFE, and LEARNERS!!
Congratulations to this week's prizewinners:
Kindergarten: Bryan O. - Mrs. Eckhart’s Class
First Grade: Eric S. - Mr. Klinich’s Class

Morning Volunteers
Can you spare 20 minutes of your morning?
We are looking for parent volunteers to help provide a positive and safe morning arrival. This could be roaming the blacktop and talking to students, going on the walk and talk, ensuring that kids know they have choices but all must be safe. You'll have the opportunity to spend time having fun with your own kiddo while keeping them all safe.
This opportunity is available every school day in the morning. Sign up times are Monday-Friday 8:55-9:15am. All NSD volunteers must apply online each year. Apply here!
Use this link to sign up! Questions? Email Bob Graff at rgraff@nsd.org.
Office Volunteers and Substitute Opportunities
We are looking for some volunteers to help out in our office! When you sign up for a date, please note the time you plan to come in. SIGN UP HERE!

We're also looking for family members interested in becoming NSD substitutes for our office staff and school assistants. Attendance
Attendance Line + Email
When your child will be absent or tardy, please email ccattendance@nsd.org and CC your student’s teacher OR leave a message on our 24-hour phone line at 425-408-5710 by 9:50am. If the absence is reported after 9:50am, you may receive an automated call.
If you are concerned that your student's absences have not been updated, please email ccattendance@nsd.org requesting confirmation.
Student Drop-Off
Students should be dropped off no earlier than 9:00am when campus supervision begins and picked up no later than 3:45pm at the end of the day.
Early Pick-Up
If your child will be leaving early for the day, families/guardians will need to send a note, email both the teacher and ccattendance@nsd.org, or call the office on the main line at 425-408-5700. Please do not leave a message on the attendance line. Please avoid picking up during their scheduled lunch, recess or specialist time. It can be especially difficult to find students on the playground and in the cafeteria.
Only an authorized person may take a child from school. Any student being dismissed prior to the regular dismissal time must be met in the office, where the student must be signed out by the parent/guardian or authorized person. Families are not permitted to walk directly to classrooms.
Change in After School Plan
If there is a change in your child’s after school plan or how they will be getting home, parents/guardians must send a note or email your student’s teacher and ccattendance@nsd.org before school starts. If a change is needed after the start of school, please call our main office line at 425-408-5700 to ensure that we get the message to your student and their teacher in time for dismissal. Please do not leave a message on the attendance line.
Pre-Arranged Absences
In the event that your child will miss more than two consecutive school days for a reason other than health or medical issues, complete and submit the Pre-Approved Absence Request Google Form at least one week before the first planned day of absence. Access the form here!
Drop Off/Pick Up
Please be sure your student is at Canyon Creek at 9am and you are here to pick them up by 3:45pm.
Safety Reminder:
We ask parents to please do your part! Please obey traffic rules, be courteous of neighbors, do not park illegally, and stay alert for young people walking to and from school. If school busing is available in your neighborhood, please consider sending your student to and from school on the bus to reduce congestion.
Here are a few reminders to ensure we can safely get students to and from school:
DO NOT drop students off in the bus loop (staff parking lot).
If you are a walker, please do NOT use the crosswalk in front of the entrance to Canyon Creek/Skyview on 35th. People who use the crosswalk stop traffic from leaving or entering our campus, creating a massive car pile up.
If you are a walker from the North side of CC, use the entrance near the 3rd grade portables.
If you are a walker from the East/South side of CC, use the walkway through the baseball field at Canyon Creek and the crosswalk near the gate entrance of Skyview.
If your student can ride the bus, please have them use this form of transportation to get to CC.
If you are a walker and it rains, continue to walk to school. If walkers decide to drive to school due to weather, the back-up for drop-off and pick-up will more than double.
Do not drop your student off in the parking lot and have them walk alone.
Volunteers
All volunteers in the Northshore School District are required to complete a volunteer application and background check online. Volunteers will need to complete the application once a year.
Volunteers can learn more and complete an online application here.
Lost and Found
Please remember to print your child’s name in their lunch box, jackets, coats, and sweatshirts. We will return lost items to students if their names are in them.
Students can look for their lost items on the hooks in the hallways between the gym/cafeteria and restroom hallways. Any items remaining on the last day of school before summer break will be donated.
