Unit Objective:

PHYSICAL SCIENCE
This week in 8th grade science we will be working on our Chemical Reaction Device--Information about the project is linked below.
The unit objectives are:
Analyze and interpret data on the properties of substances before and after a reaction to determine if a chemical reaction has occurred.
Monday: Learn and prove the what the Conservation of Mass is.: In class experiment with glow sticks.
Tuesday/Wednesday: Decide what chemical reaction will be used for the project--students will test different amounts of substances to see what will keep a consistent temperature for 8 min.
Thursday/Friday Work session for project
Introduction of project--students will be working on the chemical reactions part of the project in class, they are welcome to complete the build portion at home or in class.

Social Studies
Week at a Glance:
This week in social studies we are exploring the Jefferson Era. Students will learn about landmark Supreme Court cases, Judicial Review, and the Elastic Clause.
- Monday - Students will be learning about the Elastic Clause and how it is still used today. Class will be taking notes and virtual learners will have an Edpuzzle.
- Tuesday/Wednesday - The Elastic Clause controversy over T.J. and the Louisiana Purchase. Assignment: Students will be taking notes and creating a map to help explain the Louisiana Purchase.
- Thursday/Friday - Lewis and Clark: Students will be working on a project in class.
Distance Learning: All students who are learning from home will be able to access these lessons on Google Classroom. They will be assigned and due the day the student has class. If there are questions, please feel free to contact your child's teacher.
Learning Target for the Week:
Explain how judicial review was developed as a check on the legislative and executive branch. Explain how the Elastic Clause justified decisions made by the government.
