Classical Conversations Week 12

To Know GOD and Make HIM Known

Foundations to Challenge

This week in Foundations, your children are memorizing some very basic points about the history of Islam. In Challenge IV, students will read books like Mere Christianity and Jesus Among Other Gods as they study world history and theology. As the capstone to their home education, they will learn to understand and share their beliefs.

Read "Christian, Know Thyself: Why it Is Important to Study Philosophy" by Kate Deddens.

Scripture

"Have this mind among yourselves, which is your in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is about every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."

Philippians 2:5-11 (ESV)

Classical, Christian Education

" God made us: invented us as a man invents an engine. A car is made to run on fuel, and it would not run properly on anything else. Now God designed the human machine to run on Himself. He Himself is the fuel our spirits were designed to burn, or the food our spirits were designed to feed on. There is no other. That is why it is just no good asking God to make us happy in our own way without bothering about religion. God cannot give us a happiness and peace apart from Himself, because it is not there."

-- C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity
