SEL Rubrics Available Wednesday in Unified Classroom
The Illinois State Board of Education has created goals to align with the Social/Emotional Learning Standards. According to the ISBE website, “These standards have been developed in accordance with Section 15(a) of Public Act 93-0495. This Act calls upon the Illinois State Board of Education to "develop and implement a plan to incorporate social and emotional development standards as part of the Illinois Learning Standards."
We have created directions for you to follow to find your child's SEL Rubric within Unified Classroom.
The three goals identified from these standards are as follows:
Goal 1: Develop self-awareness and self-management skills to achieve school and life success.
Goal 2: Use social-awareness and interpersonal skills to establish and maintain positive relationships.
Goal 3: Demonstrate decision-making skills and responsible behaviors in personal, school, and community contexts.
At Daniel Wright, social emotional learning skills are embedded within content areas but also developed during our SEL Advisory lessons throughout the year. During one of our SEL Advisory lessons each trimester, students complete a self-reflection of their growth in each of the above goals.
Grade level teachers meet to review student self-reflections and discuss evidence collected in classrooms. The team of teachers is your child’s core classroom teachers, ELA, math, science, social studies and Spanish. The team collaboratively completes the SEL rubric to provide an overall assessment of proficiency. Creative Arts, Health and Physical Education teachers are unable to attend these meetings and so, they provide feedback only on students who are not meeting the standards of the rubric.
This year, in order to streamline SEL with Unified Classroom, images of the self-reflection and rubric have been uploaded to an assignment titled "SEL Rubric Trimester 1" in your child's advisory class.
If you have questions from the teacher evaluation portion of your child’s rubric, please reach out directly to any teacher on your child’s team.
Sincerely,
Michelle Blackley, Principal
Alissa Lyman, SEL Committee
Erinn Vincent, SEL Committee
