What?
The Rice Diet is meant for you to consume healthy carbohydrates. The reason you will lose weight is because you can only consume 1000 calories per day. Diet consist of low calories, salt, and fat and high in grain, fruit, and vegetables.
When?
Developed in 1939.
Where?
Dr. Kempner went to school at Duke University at the time.
Why?
The reason Dr. Kempner developed the rice diet is from his observation that people around the world who eat rice as a main source of food tend to have fewer issues with obesity, hypertension, heart disease, and diabetes.
Sample Diet
- Breakfast: your choice of one serving of starch, non-fat dairy, and fruit
- Lunch: three starches, three vegetables, and one fruit
- Dinner: same as lunch
One cup brown rice with one cup Chinese mixed vegetables
1/2 cup low-fat cottage cheese on a lettuce leaf
Unsweetened coffee or tea
One cup brown rice served with one cup boiled cabbage
One glass skimmed milk
One cup brown rice
Cottage cheese and tomato salad prepared from 1/2 cup of low-fat cottage cheese and one tomato with a little vinegar & herbs dressing
