Principal’s Message
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year! This school year will surely be unlike any other. We begin our school year in a Hybrid Learning and Virtual Learning Model. However, we must be prepared to pivot to a Remote Learning Model (all students at home) at any time. We have plans in place to make this switch at any time. Our first day of school is Thursday, September 3rd and we cannot wait to see our students in person and online!
During the school year you can expect ongoing two-way communication between home and school. A biweekly newsletter will be published and emailed directly to you. It is essential that you check your email regularly as this is the manner in which important information will be communicated. We will also post school newsletters on our school website at: https://www.nssd112.org/redoak . Emergency communication will be communicated via email and/or automated phone calls.
If you have questions or concerns at any time, please do not hesitate to reach out. Please know that we are here to help your child be successful in school. Feel free to contact me by phone at 224-765-3750 or send me an email at nbellini@nssd112.org. We look forward to seeing you in September and working with you and your child this school year!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Nicole Bellini
Principal
School Hours
Due to traffic congestion between Red Oak and Sherwood, Red Oak begins and ends the school day four minutes later than the rest of the elementary schools.
AM Hybrid and Virtual Sessions 8:44 - 10:59 am
PM Hybrid and Virtual Sessions 12:59 - 3:14 pm
Student Hybrid/Virtual Schedule
Each grade level will follow a specific daily schedule.
Each grade level will include 5 hours of learning.
Students who receive specific services will be provided those services during the 5 hours of required learning.
In addition to reading, writing and math, each grade level will participate in science, social studies, art, library, music, and physical education.
Science and social studies will be delivered through asynchronous (not live) instruction.
Teachers will share our virtual specials schedule (art, library, music, PE) next week. These classes will take place remotely for ALL Red Oak students. If you are participating in full remote learning, you will be joining your grade level Red Oak peers for virtual specials classes each day.
Specials classes will include synchronous (live) and asynchronous (not live) learning. Some days may include 2 synchronous special classes, while other days may include 1 synchronous specials class and 1 asynchronous specials class.

School Safety Procedures
At Red Oak we are committed to ensuring that we are providing a safe environment for all of our students and staff. While COVID-19 has presented us with some additional challenges in this area, we feel very good about the safeguards we have put in place this year. Here are some of the highlights:
All parents must verify that their child is symptom and fever-free BEFORE they will be allowed to enter the building. See below for more information.
All students, staff, and families will be required to wear a mask at all times when on school grounds (inside and outside).
We have enhanced our arrival and dismissal procedures to limit the number of students at any one door.
We are encouraging social distancing at all times. Students will be sitting six feet apart in classrooms. Signage has been installed throughout the building to remind students about social distancing and arrows are in the halls for directionality.
Students will wash their hands every day as soon as they enter the classrooms. Hand sanitizer is available in every classroom for student and staff use.
All classrooms in use during the day will be thoroughly cleaned between the morning and afternoon sessions, and overnight by sanitation specialists.
Self Certification
Each day parents are required to self certify that their child has no symptoms of COVID-19 and has not been exposed to anyone with symptoms. You will receive an email from Crisis Go every morning at 6:00 a.m. Click on the link in the email to complete the self certification process. You must record your child’s temperature and answer all of the questions. Parents must complete the self certification process by 8:00 a.m. each day. Administrators will have access to a list of students who have not self certified. Students who do not complete the self certification process will not be admitted into the building. Thank you for your cooperation on this important safety matter.
Arrival and Dismissal
Students should plan on arriving at school as close to 8:44 am (AM session) or 12:59 pm (PM session) as possible, but in no case before 8:30 am (AM session) or 12:49 pm (PM session) because supervision is not provided until that time. Students will enter the building at assigned doors. Please see the map above for the assigned grade level door. Supervisors will escort students into the building at 8:44 am and 12:59 pm respectively. Please make sure your children arrive at school on time.
Car riders can be dropped off/picked up in the Car Rider Loading Zone - which is between the crosswalk at the north end of the building and the school sign. Kindergarten and 1st grade students who are dropped off will enter the building through the main entrance (A1). 3rd grade car riders will enter the building at door D4. All other car riders will enter the building at their assigned grade level doors.
At the end of the school day, buses will load at the south end of the building. Buses will travel down the left lane of Red Oak, past the car rider line. Please be cautious when waiting to drop off or pick up your child(ren). Please see the attached Arrival and Dismissal Procedures for more information.
