Welcome to OCHS Chorus

Hey friends! My name is Katie Williams and this will be my 22 year as chorus director at OCHS. Before teaching at OCHS, I taught 1 year at Hart County High School and 3 years at Winder Barrow Middle School. I love playing the piano and reading but my biggest hobby is photography. I live in Athens with my husband Richard, our 2 boys James (18) and Charlie (12) and our dog Maddie.

Meet our Student Teacher

Hello! My name is Keelin Walsh and I will be a student teacher with the choir program this Fall. I will be graduating from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Music in Music Education in December and my goal is to become a high school choir director. In my free time, I am a puppy raiser for the Guide Dog Foundation which is a non-profit that provides service dogs for people who are visually impaired. I am currently raising a yellow lab named Marilynn who might make a few special appearances this year. I am so excited to meet you all!

Chorus Fee & Parent Meeting

Each student in the choral department is asked to pay a Chorus Materials Fee. This donation plays a vital role in the success of the choral program. The fees are $20 per child, per semester and includes a folder and all the sheet music needed for that semester in that class. Your donation will also be used to off-set the cost of materials, accompanists, rehearsal tracks, concert attire replacements, choreography, piano /keyboard maintenance and technology replacements.

We hope that each family will be represented in the parent volunteer group to help organize and plan fundraising events. With the support of families, we are able to provide numerous opportunities for fundraisers that are meaningful and successful. Visit to sign up. The first Parent Meeting will be Monday, August 16 at 6:00pm in the chorus room at OCHS. At this meeting we will discuss extracurricular activities, performance attire, fundraisers and our trip to Disney World planned for April, 2022.


UGA Choral Day

Thursday, September 23, from 8:15am-5:30pm is Choral Day at UGA. Students who are selected are invited to sing in an all-day event. The cost is $50 which includes music and transportation. We will take a bus to UGA School of Music and spend the day rehearsing and singing with other schools from across the state. At 3:00, there will be a free concert in Hugh Hodgson Hall where everyone is invited to attend. $50 “hold your spot” deposit and registration form is due by August 31. Costs are subject to change.

District Honors Chorus

On Friday, October 29 and Saturday, October 30, the District 14 Honors Chorus will be held in Piedmont University in Demorest, GA. The cost is approximately $130, which includes registration, music, rehearsal tracks, hotel and transportation. The registration form and $50 “hold your spot” deposit is due by August 31. The students, who are selected, will participate in the weekend of rehearsals and performance. On Saturday, October 30, there will be a free concert for the public, parents and friends. Costs are subject to change.

All-State Chorus

This year, the 1st All-State chorus auditions will be held on Saturday, November 13. This is for the most serious chorus student who is self-driven to practice on their own time. At the audition, students will perform a solo from a select list, sing a major, minor and chromatic scale, and sing three sightreading examples. If they pass this audition, they will prepare for a second audition on January 20 at North Hall Middle School after school. The actual All-State Chorus event is February 17-19 (winter break) in Athens, Ga. The cost for the 1st audition is $25, non-refundable, which is due August 31. The 2nd audition is $50 and includes acceptance fees, music and rehearsal tracks.

All-State Reading Chorus

If reading music is fun and easy for you, then this is for you. Auditions for the Reading Choir are October 29 or 30 (TBD). The $25 non-refundable registration fee is due August 31 with another $25 acceptance fee due once you have been selected. The event is January 27-29 at the Classic Center in Athens, GA.


The Chorus Department will be taking a trip to Disney World to participate in a musical theatre workshop based on the musical Frozen. We will depart on April 2 and we will return on April 5. The cost is $600 per person and includes a 3 day Disney pass, lodging, workshop, transportation, 3 $25 meal cards and 3 private breakfast meals at the hotel each morning. A $200 deposit is due by August 31, $200 Nov. 1 & $200 Feb. 1. All students participating are expected to participate in fundraisers throughout the year to raise the $6000 needed for the charter bus. SO MUCH FUN!!!

Literary Team

Each year OCHS competes in the Regional Literary Competition. This competition includes essay, extemporaneous speaking, dramatic interpretation as well as 4 vocal events. These include Boy and Girl Soloist, Girls Trio and Boys Quartet. Auditions for the literary team will take place in September so stay tuned. Region competition is in late Feb. or early March. Students competing must be GHSA eligible.


Auditions for OC A CAPPELLA will take place the week of August 23 and rehearsals are listed below. OC A CAPPELLA performs heavily during the holiday season outside of school hours. Each student chosen will be required to attend 7 of the 8 rehearsals. We will rehearse from 3:30-4:30 (sometimes 4:15) in the chorus room. One Act Cast Members may have alternate rehearsals. Chorus Sponsorships

Sponsorships are a great way to support the chorus program while also allowing businesses to advertise to the public. Business sponsorships are $100 and include website and program “logo” advertising. Family sponsorships are $25 a semester.
