Groundbreaking Ceremony Kicks Off Project

Construction underway at RPHS

A groundbreaking ceremony on May 24th marked the official kick-off to major construction and renovation at Raymore-Peculiar High School.

Participants included representatives from the School Board, District and high school administration, bond issue campaign leadership, incite Design Studio architects, J.A. Lillig Excavating, Henderson Engineers, Kaw Valley Engineering, and the cities of Peculiar and Raymore.

The project includes new construction of about 110,000 square feet, including a two-story addition at the north of the current building. The design creates separate areas for bus, parent pick-up, and student traffic.

The plans also include construction of a storm-resistant concrete dome structure on the east side of the building. The dome will include an auxiliary gym, restrooms, and locker rooms and will also serve as a shelter in the event of severe weather. In addition to the exterior construction, there will be renovation to some areas inside the school.

Once complete, the District will be able to accommodate all students in grades 9-12 in one school. Read more:

Summer App Camps

The RPHS robotics team is hosting an app development camp over the summer for two, one week sessions, one from June 20th through the 24th, and one from August 1st through the 5th. Students will be working on developing their own android apps and learning the basics for app development. The camp sessions are from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Students must bring their own lunch and secure their own transportation. The cost is $160 per student per session, any interested student is welcome to attend, however we are limited to 23 seats for the first session and 24 for the second one. Registration and payment is done online, and the links to the registration for each session is below.

Summer School Information

Summer School begins June 6th and continues through June 30th. Bus transportation is available for students entering grades K-8. Bus routes are being prepared and will be posted online when complete. For questions about schedules for students entering grades 9-12, call 816-892-1528.

Construction to Begin at High School

With the end of the school year, the District is moving forward with construction of an addition to the south high school. In April, the School Board approved bids for site development work. This includes grading, pad preparation for the building additions, relocation and installation of site utilities, and construction of the west and north parking lots. In addition to the exterior site work, the District is preparing for renovation to take place inside the building. Because the addition includes a new, larger library media center, the existing library (pictured above) will be converted into classrooms. During the 2016-2017 school year, students in grades 9-12 will be able to access books and resources in the library media center in the north high school building.

Get your shots for next school year!

Plan now to ensure students are up to date with immunization requirements. All students must present documentation of immunization status, including month, day, and year of each immunization before attending school.
  • Kindergarten: Five immunizations
  • Incoming 8th graders: Tdap and meningococcal
  • High School: Two doses of meningococcal vaccine by 12th grade

The meningococcal vaccine is a new immunization requirement. In this two-series immunization, the first dose is given with the Tdap prior to 8th grade, and the final dose is required prior to the 12th grade year. Students with one meningococcal vaccine given after the age of 16 before the 2016-2017 school year are only required to have one dose. All other students will require both doses prior to 12th grade.

5th Grade Preview Day & Meet the Teacher Night

On Monday, August 15th from 8:35 a.m. - 1:10 p.m. 5th graders will have an opportunity to participate in Preview Day. This event is optional, but we are hopeful that everyone will be able to participate. Buses will run their normal routes and should be within 15 minutes of their scheduled time. We will use this opportunity to familiarize students with the building, practice opening lockers, and settle students into their classrooms. A snack will be served. This will be a great opportunity to give everything a trial run before the real first day of school. More information will be provided at registration.

All students and parents are invited to participate in Meet the Teacher Night on Monday, August 15th from 4:00-7:00 p.m. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to meet your child’s teachers and allow your child to practice opening his/her locker. Students may also bring their school supplies on this evening. A representative from Child Nutrition will also be available to deposit money into your child’s lunch account.

The Ray-Pec School District is seeking feedback from parents, patrons and staff. The survey will remain open until June 1. Take the survey now: Parent/Patron survey

Student Dress Code

A complete Dress Code Policy will be printed in your child’s planner, but it is important for all students and their parents to be aware of a couple of the guidelines as you prepare for the coming year. First, the midriff area must be covered at all times. Be sure all shirts are long enough to avoid this situation. Also, spaghetti straps and tank tops should not be worn. Please be cautious of shorts that are too short. Lastly, pants should not sag. Any student not following the dress code will be sent to the nurse’s office, where either a call home will be made or appropriate alternative clothing will be provided. We appreciate your cooperation in supporting our school dress code.

Student Pictures

Pictures will be taken on Wednesday, September 14th. All students will have their picture taken on this day for the yearbook. Information regarding purchasing pictures will be sent home with your child prior to the 13th. Picture Re-Take Day is scheduled for Tuesday, October 25th. This day is set up for those who were absent on the original picture day.

Transportation

Bus: If your child is going to be riding the bus to and/or from school, please be sure he/she knows the correct bus number before leaving for school on the first day. Information regarding bus routes and bus numbers will be mailed to all students. The routes will also be posted in the newspaper and on the school website (www.raypec.k12.mo.us). If you have any questions or concerns or any problems with the bus now or throughout the year, please call Apple Bus Company at (816) 318-1900.

Car Riders

If you are bringing your child to school and/or picking him/her up at the end of the day, please use the circle drive on the east side of the building. Please remember that students should not arrive at school before 8:15 am, and all students should be picked up at the end of the day at 3:50.

First Day of School

The first day of school is on Wednesday, August 17th. Students are allowed to enter the building at 8:15 a.m. for breakfast and morning announcements. School begins at 8:35 a.m. and concludes at 3:50 p.m.

Have A Great Summer!
