Empower All People to be Healthy, Lifelong Learners
Kia kaha - do your best * Kia māia - be courageous * Kia manawanui - have a heart
From our Principal
While 2020 has thrown a lot of challenges our way, we've shown that by working together, for each other, we make an incredible community. Thank you to everyone for their extra care during Alert Level 2 by washing your hands, contact tracing and being kind to each other. We are always amazed and grateful for the support of our community.
Farewell to the Warring Whanau
Next Friday, 28 August, will be last day of school for the Warring whanau. They have been an integral part of our school community for the past ten years with Mike serving the Board of Trustees as Chairman since 2013 and Fiona teaching here over the last five years. I would like to share a little of what they wrote in their resignation letters:
From Mike Warring:
It has been such a privilege to serve our Kura in this capacity for the last 7 years. Our Whanau has loved being a part of this community for the last 10 years, we have experienced many feelings and emotions as we have walked this journey together. It has been amazing to see our school grow and develop along the way.
As we begin the process of packing up our lives here in Bell Block and looking towards our move to Paraparaumu Beach, I have reflected on how much this community has been a part of our lives. We are all the richer for our time spent here and will miss it greatly as we leave. It has also been so awesome to work with such a great group on the Board of Trustees, I wish you all well on this journey ahead. I believe that we are on the right course as a school, so keep up the good work.
From Fiona Warring:
I’m so appreciative of the opportunity I’ve been given to make the move into Primary from Early Childhood, and the way that the school has believed in me and supported me on this journey. For me personally and professionally this has been amazing and given me a huge boost in my career and my big picture thinking across education. I feel privileged to have been part of creating much better links between ECE and school in our local community.
It’s also been a huge privilege to be a part of our school community overall. Our whanau has been part of this special place for 10 years, but the last 4 have been so encouraging and exciting to be a part of. It’s a long game, but I feel that my children as students and myself as a teacher have hugely benefited from the culture shift and new trajectory that the school is on. I feel proud to have worked under the schools guidance and leadership through these ongoing changes. Puketapu School has always been a special place, but it's a very different school to the one we enrolled Reuben at 10 years ago.
We wish Mike, Fiona, Reuben, Emma and Rhys all the best for their next journey in Paraparaumu Beach. Next Friday 28 August @ 2.00pm in Northpoint Church we will be having a Student Showcase to celebrate their time here at Puketapu School.
We would love for you to join us.
KIA KAHA - KIA MĀIA - KIA MANAWANUI
From our Whanau Leaders
Kia ora everyone! My name is Jahliyah and I am the whanau leader of Kakapo.
As everyone may know Covid-19 has returned to New Zealand once again, sigh, but that doesn't stop kids from Puketapu from keeping safe and coming to school to learn!
Covid may have postponed our cross country, but kids are still out and about playing sports in the good weather that we have had! (until these past few days of course)
At Puketapu we have recently added a Volleyball net on our field and many students have joined in to try play the sport, it's amazing to see younger kids getting taught how to play by our older kids in Kowhai and Kauri.
My top tip of the week would be to not dive in the mud if you don’t have spare clothes.

Cross Country Fun Run & Walk
Everyone runs (or walks) and there are points for completion and points also for dressing up to support your whanau group.
We would love to see everyone dressed in their whanau colours (kids, parents and siblings, too!) supporting each other. Crazy wigs, face paint and vibrant accessories are all good.
Cross Country Sponsorship
Every child who returns their sponsorship form with go in the draw to win one of many prizes at a showcase later this term. A massive shout out to Team Green Harcourts for their sponsorship of $450!
