Life on the Goldfields
When they first came to the goldfields they slept in tents with a mattress made of leaves.
Later on, they slept in huts.
Outside they had cooking fires,a bucket of water and something to help them identify their tent.
The food and drink that the miners had was Mutton, Damper and Tea also the Mutton was sold from the butchers tent.
There were little or no doctors etc… this resulted in many wounds becoming infected. In the summer there was almost no water so men regularly passed out from dehydration and much more diseases.
