Tech Connect!
Anna ISD, January 2015
Before you post, THINK!
After launching a successful Digital Citizenship campaign last month, we decided to remind students think THINK before they post. The acronym THINK encourages students to be mindful of these things when they post on social media.
PE Teacher's Donors Choose Project Gets Funded!
(JKB) Classroom supplies aren't just needed in the classroom, they are needed in the gymnasium, too! PE Coach Aaron Pratt was in need of supplies beyond what his modest PE budget could afford. He was excited to teach an upcoming unit on basketball, but lacked the basketballs needed for the multiple classes he has. So, he turned to DonorsChoose.org, a nonprofit organization that empowers public school teachers from across the country to request much-needed materials and experiences for their students and allows anyone to donate directly to public school classroom projects. Coach Pratt used social media and called upon his friends, family, and community to help him reach his goal. Within a month, Coach Pratt's Donors Choose project had been fully funded! You can check out Coach Pratt's completed project here.
Texas History Projects Get a Technology Upgrade
(AMS) Coach Jeremy Patton teaches his Texas History students everything they need to know about Texas. This month, Coach Patton wanted to integrate technology into the Texas County project with tech tools that students could not only use on this project, but in projects across the curriculum and for years to come. He also wanted to eliminate the need for students to email or turn in their project using a flash drive. After being introduced to three new web-based presentation tools (Google Slides, Smore.com & Emaze.com) students exercised choice in what tool they wanted to use. It was important to Coach Patton that the students got to choose a presentation tool they were comfortable with, but also challenged them to learn something new. Coach Patton created a Google Form where students simply copy and pasted their presentation link to submit their project.
