Sports Day

We were blessed with the weather on Thursday and, thanks to the organisation of PE lead Miss Stocks and our specialist teacher Mr Biggs, our Sports Day went off without a hitch! The Sharks were delighted to be announced winners as it has been a few years since they experienced success. Their winning ways included coming first in both the boys' and girls' relays which were an exciting way to end the day.

Thank you to all the staff for their hard work and to all parents and family members who came along to lend their support to the competitors. A final thanks to the Friends for selling ice creams at the end, definitely the kind of day when you do a roaring trade!

Early Years Sports Day

The children in Nursery and Reception started our annual Sports Day off by competing in three races. All the children showed their super skills and sportsmanship attitudes as they took part in a running race, beanbag balance race and potato and spoon race. They all had a fantastic time and were cheered on by their families who came along to watch and encourage our youngest athletes!

Super storybook summer fair

The Friends are delighted to announce that the GRAND TOTAL raised was £1,954.41! This was thanks to a lot of hard work by the Friends, their families, friends, all helpers and volunteers, with a special mention to our amazing caretaker Natalie who stayed late making sure school was ready for lessons on Monday morning.

Of course, such a grand total could not have been reached without everyone who attended and supported, and the generous sponsorship by Renaissance Hair and Beauty Boroughbridge, Bright Star Fireworks and Hambleton Roofing.

This fundraising will benefit the school hugely. This year the Friends have already helped us to purchase Chromebooks and Ipads and subsidised the cost of Forest School sessions. But in addition to that, it was a super, community focussed day and a lot of fun was had by all.

Adios Amigos

Our Spanish visitors went home at the beginning of the week after enjoying their weekend at the summer fair. Our Year 6 pupils have written a thank you letter as they realise that all the fun of the visit could not have happened without your support:

Dear Friends of the School and Parents of Year Six,

Thank you so much for giving up your time to help us put together such a lovely picnic, for all of us and for our Spanish friends. We appreciate all your hard work and we would like to say a big thank you to each and every one of you for bringing in such fantastic foods and delicious desserts.

Your time that you have spend on us has been amazing, generous and greatly appreciated. Your kindness has brought smiles to our faces and a memory for our Spanish friends to take home with them.

Yours sincerely

Year Six

Wednesday Well-being Day

All classes took part in a mindfulness workshop with Zen warrior Kim Barrett. They learnt how to relax and 'de-stress'. Some of the younger children also enjoyed a session of 'Kidding Around Yoga' with instructor Kate Curzon. Our final visitor had four legs, a therapy dog called Harvey, who was petted by the children. Our thanks to these specialists for coming into school and to Mrs Spencer for inviting them.

Welcoming more visitors!

Although they came a little less far than our Spanish guests, there was just as warm a welcome for friends from our partner school in Leeds, St. Peter's. The children played together, completed a digital learning task together and then enjoyed a great game of rounders on the field.

An evening of music

We had a fabulous music concert on Tuesday evening. Children from across the school performed a range of pieces for family and friends. Year 3 entertained us with their terrific recorder playing and Year 5 showed how they had developed their music skills on the ukulele. As well as the orchestra, children who play instruments from Year 2 through to Year 6 performed pieces that they have been learning in their lessons. A big thank you to Mrs Jelf for organising the evening and also the Friends of the School who once again provided delicious cheese and wine for the adults and ice creams for our talented performers. It was a wonderfully entertaining evening.

Year Six have been busy!

After a packed schedule last week enjoying spending time with their Spanish friends, the Year 6 children haven't let up this week either! On Monday they rose to the challenge of outward bound activities at Bewerley Park. They have also been improving their cycling skills and rehearsing for the end of year production 'The Lion King' which I'm sure we are all looking forward to seeing.

Making the Most of Local Attractions

Two educational visits have taken place today. Our EYFS children have been enjoying Harewood House and Year 4 have been to Fountains Abbey and Studley. We hope to publish reports and photos in the next Update or on social media earlier in the week.

Job Opportunity

From September we have vacancies for midday supervisory assistants. You will need to be dedicated and committed to work everyday from midday to 1.30pm, setting up and clearing away dining furniture and helping in the lunch hall. Of course, enjoying working with children is a must! If you are interested, follow the link below for more details and the application pack.
