MONSTER MASH!!!
Monster Mash will be held on October 20 at 5.30 at Groves Elementary. There will be photo booth and DJ for students and family members. Come dressed in your best costume. Raffle tickets are available for purchase and there will be many baskets to choose from. If you or someone you know would like to donate baskets up for raffle, feel free to contact Melinda Wood at melinda.beth84@gmail.com. We will also have a 50/50 raffle with a twist, costume contest, and a live auction. Up for live auction will be:
1. Reserved Parking during pickup - Skip the car rider line and pull up to your very own parking spot where your child will be brought out to you first thing. No more arriving to school an hour and a half early!
2. Faux Slumber Party - A student and a friend from each grade will attend a faux slumber party where they will hang out with the staff after hours. They will be able to explore the school in ways they aren't able to do during the day. Who wouldn't want to race down Main Street Hallway, play video games, eat candy, ice cream, watch a movie and play game?
3. Birthday King/Queen for the day - On your special day, wear a cape and crown and be treated like royalty for the day!
4. Principal for the day - Who wouldn't want to spend the day being Dr Peters?

ANNUAL FUND TARGETS
Several weeks ago we started a push for contributions to Groves Annual Fund. We will NOT do fundraising here at Groves. We want to engage students in new, interesting and effective ways. We shared that adding additional Promethean Boards to our school was a target.
I am happy to share that through the generosity of our community we are able to now make purchases and add several more Promethean Boards. Our short term goal is to have one of these devices for each grade level. Thanks to all who have contributed. That goal is very close at hand.
Costumes
Students will be permitted to wear costumes on Tuesday, October 31 with some limitations.
No props or replica weapons are to be brought to school. Don't bring anything that has to be carried. (Example: A child can be a cowboy/cowgirl but a six shooter and/or lasso are not allowed. A child can be a Jedi Knight but cannot bring a light saber).
Masks are not to be worn during school.
Costumes may not be gruesome/bloody etc.
Children in costume should be prepared to explain their character what inspired them.
Parent/Staff Book Club
You may have heard about or read about Mindsets. We have plenty of conversation about this concept in education. One of the leading authors and scholars on the subject of Mindsets is Dr. Carol Dweck of Stanford University. Dr. Dweck writes that "success in school, work, sports, the arts, and almost every area of human endeavor can be dramatically influenced by how we think about our talents and abilities." In her book, Mindset, she "reveals how great parents, teachers, managers, and athletes can put this idea to use to foster outstanding accomplishment."
We are having a Groves Elementary Book Club for our school community to collectively read and then discuss the ideas from this book. If you are interested in participating, we have a limited number of books that can be borrowed. They are available by signing out a copy at the front desk.
We will hold two discussion sessions for your convenience.
Monday, November 13 from 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM
Tuesday, November 14 from 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM
Grade Level Exhibitions
At Groves Elementary we are moving away from the traditional open house. We are choosing to have Grade Level Exhibitions. These are evenings planned by individual grade levels. Students are prepped to share their learning in different ways developmentally appropriate for the age level. A smaller audience on a given evening also allows for a less chaotic experience. Mark your calendars for the following dates:
Pre K - November 2 6:00 - 7:00
K - December 6 6:00 - 7:00
1st - December 7 6:00 - 7:00
1st Spanish Immersion- November 30 6:00-7:00 (update)
2nd - December 7 5:00 - 6:00
3rd - November 9 6:00 - 7:00
4th - December 5 5:30 - 6:30
5th - November 6 6:00 - 7:00
