Student Cellphones
Parents Please remember school policy states students are not allowed to have their cell phone. Teachers collect phones in the mornings. See Policy Below
New Town students in grades K-8 may not have cell phones/electronic devices with data services or earbuds in classes for any reason. Cell phones must be turned into teacher-designated receptacles at the beginning of their first-class period and can be picked up at the end of each day.
Cell Phone/Electronic Devices Disciplinary Action The publication of this cell phone/electronic device regulation serves as a first (1st) warning to students for disciplinary purposes. Failure to adhere to the terms of this regulation will result in the following progressive discipline.
• First (1st) Offense - The cell phone/electronic device shall be confiscated and given to the principal for the remainder of the school day and picked up by the student at the end of the day. A discipline referral will be completed for documentation.
• Second (2nd) Offense - The cell phone/electronic device shall be confiscated and held by the principal until a parent/guardian picks up the unit in person at the end of the day. A discipline referral will be completed for documentation.
• Third (3rd) Offense - The cell phone/electronic device shall be confiscated and held by the principal and the student will be deemed insubordinate and will receive one (1) day of in-school suspension and a parent meeting with administration and the SRO. A discipline referral will be completed for documentation.
Safety of Students and Staff
Keeping our students and staff safe is 100% our priority. In the chance that something happens in the community or at school the administration works closely with law enforcement to ensure that all protocols are being followed. Please be mindful there may be times that we are unable to answer the phones because we may be attending to other things within the building. The district all call system will send out information when it is deemed appropriate.
Our all call system is used to send out reminders for different districts as well as late starts or if school has been called off. If for some reason you do not receive our all calls, please update your phone numbers with the office staff.
Each classroom is equipped with a barracuda bar system that makes it nearly impossible to open the door. Our staff, and, when age appropriate, students have been trained how to place these on the doors.
After School Bus or pick up changes
Dismissal is a very busy time for everyone. Parents, please try to be consistent with what your child does after school. If too many changes are made confusion can happen and this is usually when a student ends up in the wrong place. Please remember changes need to be made before 3:00 Mon, Tue, Thursday, and Friday and before 2:00 p.m. on Wednesdays. Call the office at 701-627-3718 with changes. Please make sure you speak with Ms. Abby or Ms. Danielle

VISITOR POLICY
Parents are encouraged to visit the school at any time. For the safety of students and staff, anyone visiting the school for any reason must enter through the main doors and stop in the office, no one will be permitted past the office without a prior appointment. All bags/backpacks may be subject to search. A door system has been installed in all buildings to alert office personnel of any visitor who wants to gain access to the building. Parents/legal guardians are asked to not send younger brothers, sisters, or other children to school to visit. We have no facilities to handle visiting children, and their presence tends to be disruptive. Parents are asked to call ahead of time to schedule an appointment with the teacher, so classes are not disrupted unexpectedly. If a parent abuses this policy, measures will be put into place to limit their access to the building for student and staff safety.
AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM
Students will be kept after school to make up time they missed by coming to school late, leaving school early, and/or for extra help with schoolwork, or for discipline reasons. Transportation for students living in town, IHS Housing, Bakersfield, and 4 Bears Village will be provided at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
