Varsity Football - Coach Hayden
The Eudora Cardinals lost to the #3 ranked Tonganoxie Chieftans Friday night in a hard-fought contest. Tonganoxie benefitted from having two all-state players transfer before the season. Former all-state 6A running back from Free state and a 4A all-state linebacker from KC Piper. The RB is leading the state in rushing by a large margin and is one of the best the coaching staff has ever seen. The linebacker has led the state in tackles the previous two years.
The Cardinals once again started slow, down 0-14 midway through the first quarter. The Cardinals struggled to stop the Tonganoxie RB, and a turnover before the half gave Tonganoxie a 8-28 lead going into halftime. After the half, the Cards came out with a renewed purpose but eventually fell to the Chieftans 30-52. Tonganoxie has only allowed opponents to score 30 points 3 times in the past 15 games, with Bishop Miege, Paola, and Eudora making that list.
Offensively, the Cardinals got better this game by finding out creative ways to spread the ball around. QB Zeke Reazin (12), had a career night, passing for 209 yards, with 2 touchdowns and zero interceptions. This is the most passing yards Eudora has had in a very long time. Jaiden Bender(10) also had a breakout game for the Cardinals. Coming into the game with zero touches, he ended the game with 84 yards receiving with 2 touchdowns and a 2 point conversion. Silas Etter(11) chipped in 35 yards receiving, including a highlight reel one-handed catch. Octavius Lyles (10) also showed elite athleticism on a 42-yard reception as well. The Cards were led in rushing once again by Brayden Beerbower (11), who had 154 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns. Brayden now has 562 yards on the year for a 6.77 average and 5 touchdowns. The team now has 1,058 yards rushing through 4 games for an average of 263 yards per game and 5.4 yards per carry.
Defensively, the Cards struggled to stop the Chieftans consistently. They would play great defense, only to have a breakdown on 3rd or 4th down. This is something they will keep placing a great emphasis on. The starting QB was back after missing two games due to injury, and he was a difference maker for Tonganoxie. He missed the Paola and Louisburg games for the Chieftans. The RB from Tonganoxie is one of the best in all classes, but the Cardinals must work on tackling low and bringing ball carriers down. The Cards were led in tackling by Will Schreiner (12) and Cael Lynch (12) who both had 16 tackles. Nate Criqui (12) had a great game as well from his defensive line position with 12 tackles. Cael is having a great year and has 62 total tackles on the year for an average of 15.5 tackles per game.
The coaching staff is very proud of this team. They have consistently gotten better each game, and they always compete no matter what the scoreboard says. The Cardinals are at home this Friday against Louisburg.

Baldwin
Wednesday at practice we told the freshman that within the first ten minutes they will understand what the rivalry between Baldwin and Eudora is all about. I think they found out in the JV game and if they stayed and watched the full Varsity game they really found out. The game was full of emotion and the longer we played the more intense it got. Unfortunately, we didn't come away with a win but fortunately, we didn't lose. We drew 1-1 which always stinks but it's better than a loss. We controlled and really dominated the game for much of the game. We got off 28 shots to their 9. Unfortunately, we only put 6 on frame. We just didn't test their keeper enough. We were the better team last night. They did surprise me with how defensive they went. They were very organized and tough to breakdown. I thought our guys did a pretty darn good job against a tough defense. Senior Keaton Herron got us on the board when he hit a low hard shot to the corner that the keeper mishandled and the ball trickled in. Before this, we thought we scored really early when senior Dylan Meier smashed a ball to the near post and ended up in the back of the net. What happened is a couple of the clips broke and the ball went in on the outside of the post. After that we kind of went flat for about 10 minutes. We picked it back up though and really put the pressure on. They tied in with about 14 left when we didn't clear a ball and their player just kicked it and it floated over senior Brenton Ormsby's head. Brenton had no chance. Kind of a fluke goal in my opinion. We can take a lot from this game. High-intensity game and it will help us going forward and into the playoffs.
@Seabury
When we pulled up we were on a different field than we though. This field was very very small and it affected our attitude and our play, especially in the first half. We came out fairly flat but were still able to put some things together. We were still creating opportunities that we just couldn't finish. They were able to score three with basically three guys and some long balls. We did not do a good job of covering the gaps we usually cover. We made an adjustment in the middle of the half but we looked confused. We do not do a great job of making in half adjustments. That's why we wait until halftime a lot of time so we have everyone on the same page. With about 15 left there was a call that went against us. I disagreed and was asked to leave. I did this to try and light a fire under the boys. I feel it did because we dominated the rest of the way. I put my assistant, Dylan Mathern,in a tough spot but I thought he did a fantastic job coaching the rest of the game. We got on the board early in the second half when senior Kale Breedlove put a PK away that senior Colby Lawhorn had to show the official why it was a PK and not a foul on him. Let's say Colby sold it better than I could have. Goal number two came off a great header from senior Hayden Willems when Keaton found him open in the box. I believe this may be Hayden's first varsity goal. After that, we were relentless going on the attack. We just couldn't find the equalizer. I will give their keeper credit. He stood on his head and made some fantastic saves to secure the win for them. Our keepers did a good job as well. Brenton made a couple tough ones but he was left out to dry a couple of times. Senior Devon Moncrief made a big one late in the game to keep the score 2-3 and to continue to give us a chance to tie.
We look to rebound tonight against Basehor.
Varsity Volleyball - Coach Cleveland
Tuesday at Paola
The Lady Cardinals volleyball team has had a busy couple of weeks of competition two weeks ago they traveled to Paola to take on the Panthers. The entire five-set match was definitely a crazy rollercoaster ride for the cardinals. Unfortunately, the Cards rode the serving struggle bus through-out the match. Which resulted in us going five sets with a much improved panther team. The Cards fought hard and adjusted to different line-ups on the court. Leading the way for the Cards offensively was senior Lauren Mitchell. She did a fabulous job attacking and racked up 22 kills on the night. I also want to give a shout out to the ladies coming off the bench. sophomore Audrey Shain, freshman Ellie Subar, sophomore Sawyer Schreiner and junior Abby Watson played big minutes for the cards. It was a great team effort and the Cards took the match. (15-25, 25-23, 23-25, 25-17, 15-12)
Thursday at Wellsville Tri
The first match of the night against West Franklin was not the prettiest. We came out hot with great serving from junior Sophia Ewy. She did an awesome job of keeping the West Franklin offense out of system. Unfortunately, we gave away more points than we earned throughout the entire match. Taking that loss was a hard pill to swallow for the entire team. The Cardinals lost their first match of the night 20-25, 22-25.
The second match of the night we played Wellsville. The outcome of this match was definitely in our favor, unfortunately, our level of play was not the best. Throughout the match, the Eagles did a nice job of keeping our offense out of system. Their attackers attacked at our setter as much as possible in transition. Our setter, junior Emma Durr did an awesome job defensively in the back court for our team. Out of the 13 balls attacked at her, she only had one error on the night. The downside of that great defense, we struggled to put the ball away on broken plays. The cardinal serve-receive did a much better job in this match. Juniors Harper Schreiner and Sophia Ewy lead our team in serve receive. This resulted in senior Lauren Mitchel, Sophia Ewy, and junior Sadie Walker putting several balls away on the pins. Scores on the night were 25-22, 25-20.
Senior Night
Eudora High School honored their wonderful senior volleyball players, Lauren Mitchell and Jayla Pierce on Tuesday night. These ladies have dedicated a lot of time to the EHS volleyball program over the last four years. This is senior Lauren Mitchell’s second year and Jayla Pierce’s fourth year of varsity action. And what better way to celebrate the senior night, than a win over our school rival, The Baldwin Bulldogs.
Consistently throughout the night, the ladies' hard work and discipline on defense and serve receive benefited the entire team in so many ways. Leading the way for the Cardinal offense was senior middle blocker, Jayla Pierce. Not only did Jayla put away 10 of 15 attacks, but she also did a great job of creating open net attacks for her teammates. Junior right-side attacker, Sadie Walker did just that! She drilled several attacks down the line on balls in system and on broken plays. Sadie also contributed four aces and 11 digs on the night. The lady cards finished their night with a four set win. (15-25, 25-11, 25-9, 25-18)
Tonganoxie Quad
The varsity volleyball team went 2-1 Saturday morning at the Tonganoxie Quad. We faced some great competition and overall, it was a good day of volleyball for the girls. Three of the four teams at this quad are currently ranked in the top 10 in 4A and 5A.
De Soto Match
Starting off their morning, the Cards competed against the De Soto Wildcats. To start the match the cards came out swinging aggressively in serve receive. junior Sophia Ewy came out passing the ball in system to junior setter Emma Durr. This made Emma’s job a lot easier as she mixing up her sets and setting key attackers in the front row. Unfortunately throughout the first set, errors and players taking plays off cost us the first set. Starting the second set, libero junior Harper Schreiner did a fantastic job of serving zones to keep the wildcat offense out of system. This led to many balls being set outside and the cardinal defense was set. Junior’s Harper Schreiner, Sophia Ewy, and Emma Durr did a fantastic job defending the backcourt for the cards. These three ladies combined 25 digs on the match. The lady cards fought hard as a team, unfortunately, we took our first and only loss of the morning. (12-25, 25-21, ?-25)
Tonganoxie Match
The match against Tonganoxie got off to a slow start for the cardinals. We did a fantastic job in serve-receive. Unfortunately, the Cardinal attackers were plagued with hitting errors and communication issues on defense. The lady cards were able to regain focus towards the end of the first set. Finishing the first set, we had a great connection in serve receive. Lauren Mitchell passed a fabulous in-system pass to setter Emma Durr and a quick set to the pin to Sophia Ewy resulted in a hard-wood kill. The second set, junior Mallory Vickers served aggressively at the Tonganoxie serve receive. Their passers struggled to pass several of Mal’s serves. As a result, our net defenders, Jayla Pierce, sophomore Josie Pickett, and Sophia Ewy were able to block several chieftain attacks. The Cardinals dominated the second set and won the match 25-19, 25-10.
Ottawa Match
The last match of the morning was against the Ottawa Cyclones. The first set of the match did not go as planned. The cardinal backcourt did a great job in both serve receive and defense. Leading the way for the cards in the backcourt were juniors, Harper Schreiner and Mallory Vickers. Unfortunately, our attackers got off to a slow start and tipped our first four attacks into blocks. The setter to attacker connections was not on the same page. In the second set of the match, the cardinals and cyclones traded several points. The Cardinals needed a spark of energy to take the lead. That spark came from junior libero, Harper Schreiner. The last match of our quad was quite the rollercoaster ride with Ottawa! Ottawa took the first set of the match. Although our serve-receive numbers were up, our setter to attacker connections was not on the same page. With a short break, the cards regained focus and took the second set. The cardinal servers and defense were too much for the cyclones. Junior Sadie Walker and Harper Schreiner rattled the cyclone serve-receive. The cardinal defense at the net also did a fantastic job of marking cyclone attackers early. They shut down several of their go-to attackers. Leading the way in blocking for the Cardinals was senior middle, Jayla Pierce. If a ball got by her, juniors Harper Schreiner, Sophia Ewy and junior Mallory Vickers were there to dig it up. These ladies were dominant in serving and defense the entire match. The cardinal defense won the match for the Cardinals. The final score of the match was 23-25, 25-23, 25-17.
Overall it was a good day of volleyball for the Cardinals. We have a busy week of volleyball ahead. The Cardinals are on the road Wednesday at Basehor-Linwood for a tri against Basehor and Baldwin. Thursday we are at Leavenworth for a quad against KC East, Leavenworth, and Spring Hill. Saturday we head to Anderson County for the Wellsville Tournament.
JV Volleyball - Coach Sadler
The JV Lady Cards took on Baldwin last Tuesday as a part of the Varsity Senior Night. We were dominant in the first set while playing the second game slightly closer. The Lady Cards won the match in two. Rylee Calhoon (11) and Addie Woods (10) play great defensively in the back row.
Last night the JV Lady Cards took on Basehor Linwood and Tonganoxie at EHS. Both matches went to three games. Freshman Kambry Shockley did an excellent job hitting and serving on the night. Junior Mallory Vickers helped the Lady Cards by playing outside. Junior Abby Watson ran the position of setter and did a great job attacking and setting up her hitters for success. This Thursday the JV Lady Cards will travel to Spring Hill.Spirit Week - Best Dressed!
