Message from Brenda

Dear Parents, Caregivers and Students,

The Year 6 children left for their 3-day excursion to Shenzhen this morning. They have a wonderful programme planned including a language exchange with Nankai Primary School, experiencing the Splendid China Folk Village and Miniature Park, watching amazing shows and cultural displays, as well as tasting the local cuisine. This trip is always one of the students’ highlights. One of the purposes of this trip is to use Mandarin in context and in the past this has been very successful. Thanks to Phil Sangster and Pam Stanley for all of their organisation. Please note that I will be attending the excursion this week too, so Dave Buckley will be Acting Principal in my absence.

The Year 4 camp was hugely successful last week. After initially being concerned about the weather - it ended up being perfect for the 2-day camp and the children loved the whole experience. A big thanks to Rachel Lavery for organising the camp and to all the staff who attended. It’s wonderful that our staff take time out of their own lives to ensure our students have outdoor and adventurous experiences like these to remember for a lifetime.

Update on the Principal Recruitment Process

Belinda Greer (ESF CEO), Adam Hughes (ESF Director of Education) and Andy Lowe (GS School Council Chair) have now shortlisted 3 candidates for the final recruitment process which will take place at the end of the month. On Thursday 30th May the candidates will spend the entire day at Glenealy School. There will be a formal presentation evening on Thursday 30th May beginning at 6.15 pm. This will take place at Glenealy School in The Centre. Each candidate will give a presentation on a set topic for 20 minutes and will then field questions from the floor for 10 minutes. Feedback will be gathered from all stakeholders who attend. Please mark the formal presentation evening date in your diary as we would like to see a big turn-out from our community for this important event. Please RSVP here so we have an idea of the numbers attending.

Playground Update

If you live in an apartment that looks down on our rooftop and patio area you will be noticing some changes in these areas over the last couple of months. This work will continue through into the summer. A lot of the work is manual and includes preparing and water-proofing the surface, relocating some of the structures/aircons, renewing fencing, preparing the flooring and then the final stage will include beautifying the playground with the coloured matting, equipment and accessories. Progress is steady despite the bad spell of weather over Easter, however it’s a big area and will take time to develop. Approvals and permits for restructuring work like this can take time and we anticipate that they may slow things up a bit for us over the next few months. Ideally the playground will be completed by Easter 2020. In the meantime the arrangement of having all students use downstairs at different times is working well. The PTA has also funded some exciting new construction equipment called ‘Blue Blocks’ that are arriving soon, which I’m sure the children will be very excited about.

Kind regards

Glenealy Brownie Pack

The Glenealy Brownie Pack has available places for girls in Y3 and Y4 starting this term. The Brownies meet from 3:00 to 4:30 on Tuesdays at Glenealy School. Brownies is run by volunteers and our fee for each term is $400 or less.

We offer a varied programme that aims to equip the girls with the knowledge and skills to become more independent and to develop their character. They learn in a fun, non-formal way by having a go and doing a wide range of activities that may include sewing, first aid, crafts, personal care, safety etc. Brownies is structured to give the girls opportunities to develop teamwork and leadership skills. The highlight of each year is an overnight camp in dormitories where they can put the skills they have learnt into practice.

Our pack belongs to the Hong Kong Girl Guide Association and is part of the Worldwide Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts. If you would like your daughter to join the Brownie Pack, please complete the application form and email it to
