Notes from Justin
This has been an incredibly tough week, as we experienced the loss of one of our students. I want to thank the crisis team for coming together to support the student’s family and provide counseling and guidance to our staff and students.
I also want to say a special thank you to the AHS staff. Each person arrived at work yesterday morning expecting it to be a normal day and then, after hearing the tragic news, adapted their plans to ensure student success. I appreciate each of you for your hard work and dedication to students.
Anacortes is special. Each one of you makes our team special. And I have no doubt that no matter the situation and no matter the school, the Anacortes team will always rise to the challenge and interests of our students.
Please remember that we have an Employee Assistance Program, if you need support:

I hope each of you finds an opportunity to recharge during this extended weekend.
Elementary Building Scheduling Committee 2021-2022 school year
Thank you for those of you who submitted interest to serve on this committee. Notice of membership to the committee will be sent today. The committee will convene on February 24th, March 10th and March 24th for approximately two and a half hours each. This committee will review and make recommendations for redesigning the elementary schedule to incorporate essential priorities and legal requirements that are cost neutral with initial implementation in the fall of 2022.
We are hosting this committee because the current schedule was designed based on different priorities, district programs, and old state requirements. We need to review the current schedule and determine how to adjust, modify, or redesign the schedule to respond to these differences. It is essential to bring critical internal stakeholders together to review and provide input and feedback on the schedule redesign and proposed recommendations.

Curriculum and Program Committee Update
We held our final committee meeting on Tuesday and presented the outcomes at the board study session on Thursday. The district has a lot of work ahead of us, including finalizing the middle school math recommendations. This work will be shared with the committee and board in March. Dr. Clifford is impressed by the students, staff, families, and community members' contributions and accomplishments. We are committed to engaging and partnering with our community and look forward to ongoing and future engagement. In the spring, special education and English language learner committees will convene. Check out the Community Engagement for Curriculum and Programs webpage to preview the committee work and view final recommendations.

Budget Code Updates
The Finance Department has updated the majority of account codes. Work continues this month, including:
- Create automated budget reports for each person that has budget responsibilities (administrators).
- Meet with administrators and support staff regarding their budget codes
- Define the meaning of the codes.
- Develop an understanding of new budget reports.
There may be account code combinations that you need that are currently not available either because they do not exist or that they are not active accounts. If a new account code is needed, contact Mike Sullivan, 360-503-1213 or masullivan@asd103.org

Human Resources would like to thank our substitutes for their continued support in filling outstanding sub assignments this year. It is no small job to enter a different classroom each day, jump into different lesson plans, and work with new students, but our substitutes do every day, and the District thanks you!
We are still actively recruiting new substitutes for a variety of positions. Please apply online at https://anacortesjobs.hrmplus.net. For questions, please reach out to Shelby Vander Kooy in Human Resources - svanderkooy@asd103.org
