Hello Fourth Grade Families!
It has been another wonderful month of learning and we are grateful to continue building deeper relationships with these incredible, creative fourth graders. We have been solidifying the base of our academic learning with many social and emotional lessons. Students continue to work up to celebrations by going above and beyond in following our classroom and schoolwide expectations.
In math, we are exploring factors, multiples, prime numbers, and composite numbers. This has been a fun mini unit of exploring numbers and their patterns. I challenge you to share your favorite number with your child and ask them if it is prime or composite and why.
In writing, we are focusing on building believable stories and adding detail to our writing. We played around with descriptive language with the sentence “it jumped”. Would that be enough for the reader to picture what is happening? We then added more detail like what was jumping, what it looked like, and where it was jumping. We are well into creating our drafts of realistic narrative stories. Ask your child about our call and response echo for what belongs in the beginning of their story!
In science, we are in the final lessons of wrapping up our geology unit and just visited Rock of Ages in Barre for our second field trip of the year! The quarry has been active since the 1800s and is an impressive sight to see! This quarry has produced the granite used for the Vermont state house in Montpelier amongst other buildings all around New England and the world. Students loved getting to bowl on the granite bowling alley!
We will continue to send updates of the happenings of our classrooms via Talking Points as well, but as always, if you have questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out!
With gratitude,
-The fourth grade team
