Week at a Glance
Marian Central Catholic High School Faculty Newsletter
February 17, 2019
Well, we came slipping and sliding into this past week, but we came out on fire! Could anyone have know while cheering out our Wrestlers last Wednesday as they headed to individual state that they would be coming home with such success? And how exciting it was Friday afternoon when the new Head Football Coach was announced! Things are really hopping here at Marian!
It seems that utilizing our Late Start schedule help us respond to weather conditions yet still allowing us to preserve as much of our sacred instructional time. Let's pray that the weather settles down a bit and we can have smooth sailing to spring!
We also had several retreats this past week. We are very thankful that our students had a prayerful and reflective experience, reminding them how important our faith is in our day to day life. A special thanks to Father Twenty, our Theology department, and all the chaperones that helped to make the retreats successful.
Mr. Maloney brought several of our Seussical characters to our McHenry Deanery schools this past week in order to promote literacy and our musical! Students, in their costumes, stepped into several elementary classes to read favorite Dr. Seuss books to the students. What fun! Check out the pictures from the tour below!
Of course, due to the impact the weather has had on instruction thus far, Administration felt they had to provide options for the upcoming Quarter 3 exams. Mrs. Loy pushed out a survey at the beginning of the week that resulted in our decision as to how we will address these exams this year. Please review the details outlining your options provided on the Feb. 15 email.
Please focus on the following timeline:
By FEB. 21st: Please let us know if you WILL or WILL NOT be administering assessments March 7th & 8th by completing this quick form: Quarter 3 2019 Exams. We need this info to provide ISP supports for you!
March 5th Late Start: After the “State of the Union” general meeting in the cafeteria at 7:30 am, all instructors may utilize the remainder of the late-start to work on grades, exams, or meet in their PLCs. We all can use a little ‘catch-up’ time!
March 7th:
Grade Portal closes at 7:00 am.
Full day of school, exams (if administering them) during periods 1, 3, 7, 9. Dismissal at 2:30 pm.
March 8th:

All we can say after this week is WHEW!!
Looking ahead...
This coming week, although short due to President's Day, has many exciting events for students and Staffulty to look forward to.
Tuesday will bring us a much needed All School Mass. We are looking forward to Father's homily to warm our hearts and keep us right with God. If you have been contacted by Mr. Maloney about helping out during Freshmen Registration, please meet in the cafeteria right after school to review procedures. In addition, all coaches of Spring Sports are to meet in the cafeteria at 5:30pm for a coaches meeting in preparation for the parent/athlete meeting at 7 pm and the Spring Season. Let's hope that the weather will cooperate for our Spring teams!
Wednesday evening there are two exciting events going on simultaneously! Not only is Freshmen Registration for the Class of 2023 occuring at 6:30 in the cafeteria, but we are honoring our seniors at the boys basketball game in Lander's Pavilion! Senior boys basketball players, cheerleaders, dance, and our fencers will be recognized! Come join the celebration of our wonderful athletes!
Registration of returning students is continuing through Guidance. Thank you for your flexibility and patience during this process as Guidance pulls students out of your classrooms to meet and plan with them. Guidance anticipates completing these meetings soon, and then the scheduling of classes will begin! Make sure that you submit your letter of intent for teaching for the 2019-20 school year by the deadline of February 22 so staffing can be determined. Additionally, Department Heads, if you have yet to submit your department's list of who is qualified to teach which courses and what courses each teacher on your team desires, please do so no later than March 1. Thank you.
Finally, it looks like this coming weekend continues our school's trend of academic prowess and service! Our Math Team will be competing in Regional competition in Rockford this Saturday while our Key Club holds another Marian Cares Event! We are encouraging all students and staff to bring personal care items and drop them off in any English class to help support this event. Please continue to support our students in all they do, all they take pride in, and all they are!
Have a wonderful week...
