Langley Library Newsletter
Back to School Edition
Welcome Back!
This newsletter will go over some of the changes for our library program and how to access resources.
Even though we're starting things off in a new way, the library's resources (including me) are still available for students and families. Please reach out anytime I can help.

Safety Protocols
- Until further notice, parent check-outs will happen through a hold system rather than shelf-browsing. Parents will log-in to Destiny Discover, place a hold on the books that they would like to check out, and those books will be held in the office for parents to pick up from Ms. Ruth. A video explaining the process is below.
- The same hold system will be used for student check-outs while students are virtual learning. Once students return to the classroom, they may use the hold system for checkouts or may checkout books from a cart that Ms. Mosley brings to their classroom. If they place books on hold, Ms. Mosley will bring them to the student's classroom. Students will not be allowed to browse the shelves in the library.
- Books will be returned in a cart in the front lobby of the school. All books will be placed in quarantine for a minimum of 4 days after they are returned and before they go back into circulation. The return cart will be cleaned with disinfectant daily.
- When Ms. Mosley brings checkout carts to students' classrooms, only one student at a time is allowed to browse. Each book that is touched by a student, but not checked out, will be cleaned with a Clorox/Lysol wipe before the next student is allowed to browse. If a book is opened and read from, but not checked out, that book cover will be cleaned and the book will be put into quarantine for a minimum of 4 days.
Curbside Check-Out of Books
Although shelf-browsing in the library is not allowed at this time, you can still browse for titles in our online catalog using Destiny Discover. Once you've found a book that you would like to check out, you will place that book on Hold and I will pull that book for you and bring it to the front office for you to pick up. Students will receive further directions on how to place books in hold in their Schoology Library course.
Parents are allowed to check out up to 5 books at a time. They are due 14 days after they are checked out. You MUST create a new library parent account to be able to participate in curbside check-out. Accounts from last school year did not roll over. Click the button below to set up your account.
Curbside Check-Out Directions
- Click the button below to fill out the form below to set up your Parent/Guardian library account. Give Ms. Mosley 24 hours to get your account created.
- Go to the online library catalog and place books on hold. This video explains the process. The video is also embedded below.
- Once you receive an email from Ms. Mosley letting you know that your books are ready, you can pick them up in the Langley front lobby from Ms. Ruth. Please do not come to campus to pick up your books until you receive an email from Ms. Mosley.
- Read! Perhaps even more than once if the book is really wonderful.
- Once you are all finished with your books (and have taken excellent care of them, of course), you will return them to the cart labeled "Library Book Returns" in the front lobby of the school.
If you would like to hop on a Zoom call or the phone to walk through this process, please email me at mary.mosley@nisd.net.
Note - The username for your parent account will be the first and last name that you submit on the form, all lowercase with no punctuation. The password will be the phone number that you submit on the form. For example:
- Username: marymosley
- Password: 2103970184
Accessing e-Books Through Sora
Note: The school setup code is, in fact, johnpaulstevens. Langley is not an option but logging in with any Northside school will give them access.
Returning Library Books from Last Year
If you or your student have any library books still out, please return them as soon as you can. There is a Book Return cart in the front lobby of the school where you can return books anytime the school is open.
If you aren't sure about whether you or your student has books checked out, you can email me at mary.mosley@nisd.net or watch the video below to see how to log-in to your library account to view check-outs.
About Me
Hobbies: I love to read, play handpan (it's an instrument that looks a bit like a metal turtle shell or a UFO), travel, and take care of my growing jungle of houseplants!
Bookish Things: I've loved reading fantasy since I was a little girl - I first found a collection of fairy tales at my grandmother's house and have loved the genre ever since. I very much value the power of stories to build empathy and compassion. I think picture books are for all ages and that graphic novels are wonderful.
