Spectroscopy is the analysis of light spectra and the way in which light interacts with matter. A spectroscope is used to identify the wavelengths of elements, each element absorbs or emits wavelengths and we see them as color. Each element has its own unique spectra which we can use to identify that element in a star. There are three main types f spectra: continuous,emission line and absorption line.A continuous spectrum is characterized by a wide, smooth band of colors like a rainbow. An emission line spectrum is characterized by radiation only at specific wavelengths, with dark gaps in between. An absorption line spectra is a continuous spectrum form which certain wavelengths of light have been subtracted , so it looks like a continuous spectra with dark lines.
